Well How unlucky am I, With my new Sony H3 Camcorder I decided to go and Film the amazing High Tides in Cornwall, 18 ft above sea level on a cliff I was Filming away when....

woooooooooosh.... a bloomin masive wave from nowhere came and soaked us all, including the Camcorder, I sent it to sony hoping they would be able to repair it under its warranty but....No, as it has had liquid Damage the cost is £400,

Its just not worth it

bye bye HD camera.

I wont cry as it might short circuit my Sony Vaio laptop keyboard....

Come on Sony have a heart, Accidents to happen to your Customers,

and no I wont claim on my Home insurance......

So sorry to hear that... what a pain but you really in all honesty can't expect Sony to repair it for free can you?

Salt water and electrics don't mix, I'm sureprised they didn't write the thing off straight away.

So why not claim on your home insurance?

Unlucky, but very silly for taking the camera into an environment that would be likely to damage it.

Why not?
That sounds like a justifable reason.
Or does your home insurance not cover things out of your home?

I think you're being a tad unreasonable expecting Sony to pay for reapirs to a product that was accidentally damaged. Someone scratched the bootlid on my car recently which I'll end up paying for - I can imagine the response I'd get from Jaguar if I tried to get it fixed for free under the warranty!

I dont really expect Sony to pay for it, But also I feel as a Gadget geek over the years I have supported Sony with their new products, Buying over 5 of their Camcorders, PC,s Laptops etc,

The Reason I dont want to claim on my Home Insurance is because I just Did, and in the long run this only makes premiums rise so tehre is No benefit in a £600 camera after the Excess,

Being up a large cliff wasnt exactly a risky enviroment foe water damage, It was only a Quick splash, but the wet stuff soon got in.......

It is a shame, and I too would be gutted if it happened to me, but sadly Sony and every other manufacturer in the world wouldn't offer to help in this sort of situation.

The profit margins on electricals is slim at best and there's little profit in a product if the manufacterer has to repair it under guarantee...... when it's 'accidental' fualt they certainly won't interested unless you happen to order £100000's of Sony gear.
