i imagine many of us will be smiling to ourselves about the time spent typing on here when we hear the music on Saturday (not too much thudding on the floor from the Mark fans, we need you to stay healthy and be able to vote)

We're more likely to be staring with open mouths and drooling slightly LOL
![]() At least there's recovery time between thud and lines closing! |

Maybe they'll dance to the Channel 4 cricket music, Mambo no. 5. Doesn't seem likely on the Beeb, plus it's a mambo, not a salsa, but it would be better than the other one!

I won't find out until it's all over - I have to drive down south tomorrow for a wedding on Saturday, so I'll have to wait until I get back on Sunday!!!

What is Karen thinking? The cricket music is a Samba beat not a Salsa.

![]() There can be some sycopation in the Samba however, so some steps are danced differently, but the basic rythmn is based on a triple step with the step time ratio divided as: 3/4 - 1/4 - 1 Think of how you dance a boto fogo and you have the rhythm! The time signature of Salsa music is traditionally 4/4 but there are various rhythmic patterns (called claves) which fit inside. It's hard to describe this using text, but they are the little 'clunks' you hear during the music that sometimes happen on the beat and sometimes off the beat. Samba time signature is essentially played as 2/4 timing but with a bass line of 16 notes across two bars. Think of the riff to the song 'Brazil' and tap out the rhythm. Hope this has helped! |

That has helped, i'm loving all the dances and knowing something about them can only make them more enjoyable.

In the hopes that you may see it here, Thess...
reposts from another thread: Girl from Ipanema: no idea which dance - it's a bossanova, what goes with that? Words and feel wise it'd make a lovely rumba, but don't know if it would work with the dance steps... I've just noticed, listening again to the "Strictly Ballroom" paso music that Mark and Karen danced to, that it seems to be in 6/8, which is a duple time signature as required by a paso doble, but I wondered how common that was? Would it be frowned on in competition? I was under the impression paso music "should" be 2/4. |
