What is the best video mp3 player?

I want one with a good-sized screen for watching movies on. But not an Archos! They are far too big for if you just want to listen to some music on the train! (And, IMHO, they are ugly)

I would ideally like an iPod, but I have heard that the screen is too small for watching movies comfortably.

Please help!

If you don't want an Archos then you've pretty much ruled out getting any form of PMP (Personal Media Player) .... and they are best for video playback.

In which case, the iPod is probably as good as any.

Unless you go up to a bigger player, you're not going to get a bigger screen.

Simple as that really.

The Creative Zen Vision M is probably the best MP3 player for videos, that is still MP3/pocket size. It has lots of things Ipods don't have: better colour resolution, twice the video battery life, radio, and the sound is great too. I can easily get 4 hours of video watching out of mine.

The creative Zen Vision:M or even :W are good and probably have among the best format support for different video codecs.

Have another look at the Archos range they have a large variety of products all of which are in very different sizes. Going from smaller than the Ipod Mini to quite large things.

I Have the Creative Vision M player and all I can say is wow , I have had it for 3 weeks now and still is 1 best thing I have bought for a very long while. Even thow the touch pad can get a bit sensitive but u get used to that after a while. The quality from it is amazing and beats the ipod hands down when playing either video or mp3. Also u get a FM tuner built in which has brilliant reception, which I dont think the ipod has, and the best thing is u can copy ya mp3s or vids back to ya hard drive. The software is web browser based and I think is the best thing creative have ever done. No more messing around with stupid software which crashes like it did on the old blue jukebox. So in my opinion get the vision m and get the leather case to go with it u wont be dissapointed. And on a final note the battery lasts forever but does charge from the usb port or a seperate mains adaptor which is sold seperatly.

Regards

Pete

Vision:M is a good call over the iPod based on the number of formats it supports.

But .... it's still only a 2.5" screen, the same as the iPod.

Which takes the OP back to the original point of screen size and you're still left with the same answer. Bigger screen = bigger player.

I can't think of an iPod sized device currently available that has a bigger screen than 2.5".

The Archos 404 is the screen size you are looking for.. you will not get anything better for that size.

If you want something slightly smaller then you are looking at the Archos Gmini402, similar size to an iPod, but the screen is slightly bigger.

I find watching an hour or so on a 402 is fine.. But 3 hours.. I don't think so.. This is more 404 territory.

http://pocketpccentral.net/ipaq3950.htm

whilst people go for dedicated machinery, i didn't want to have a manbag full of devices, so stuck with a pocketpc. You can get these second hand on ebay for about £70, movies rip to approx 225megs which you can stick on SD flash cards. A foldout keyboard makes a mini laptop, a £28 SD wifi card gets you connected round the house to your wireless network and up for some wardriving in the city centre. Pocketpc's do numerous things and although I just bought a small mp3 player in the Argos sale for listening to audiobooks when i walk to college, full on PMP's are excessive baggage to me right now.
