Does anyone know why EastEnders has stopped playing the piano introduction to the closing theme during sad times?

I thought they would do it when Jamie died, or at his funeral tonight, but it happened on neither. Do they reserve it for other things? Like original characters leaving? (Maybe when Mark dies in the Spring.)

My housemate and I were trying to remember the last time it happened and think it might have been when Peggy went to Spain for Sam and found Frank. We think it should come back because it's so tear-jerking!

Hope someone can help!

I don't know eally, it would be appropriate for sad occasions, has been use extensivly in the past. BTW the actual name of the music is "Julia's Theme", named after the late Julia Smith, co-creator and former producer of EE

Surely, they'll be playing it at the end of every episode. Think Jamie should count himself lucky, Albert Square's not exactly full of the joys of spring at the best of times. Sonja won't know he ever existed in a few weeks, she'll be down the Queen Vic knocking back Double Diamonds in no time.

I didn't know Mark dies in the spring. Why do you have to spoil things for people?!

NO! I try not to read things like that so it doesn't spoil it for me! I DID make the mistake of looking at some of the Coronation Street spoilers on this site and wished I hadn't - I now expect every episode to be the one where Emily gets her head bashed in and am disappointed when she escapes unscathed.

It is fitting on occasions, but it seems a bit overly-sentimental. It was hysterical when they used it when Jamie and Sonia split up that time (I think that may have been the last time it was used actually), when Sonia gets out of the car leaving Jamie alone, and suddenly the piano theme kicks in...as if anybody cared THAT much. Of all the times to use it, that certainly wasn't one of them...

Nope it's not.
But its 3mins long, and after it has played the EE theme, it plays another version, which COULD be the piano intro, but I don't think it is cus I really don't sound like it, so if anyone wants it let me know, see if you can figure it out lol. Leave ure e-mail addy!

There is also 2 other songs, 1 called Osymyso Pat N Peg Eastenders Remix and the other is Beacon FM Shaggy Eastenders Who Shot Phil.

Hmmmm

If you search on amazon it is the B side to the EastEnders theme tune single, someone will probabally be selling it. Sadly I've only found it on 7" single (didn't they release it on tape or CD?) which means it's no good for me as we don't have a turntable (and when we did it hadn't worked for years as I broke the stylus as a baby and my dad never bought a new one).

Talking about closing themes, I caught the last bit of the EE documentary last night about Mark Fowler as I was putting the lottery programme on and they were playing a song I really like. It had the line "I hope you had the best time of your life" in the chorus. Does anyone know what it's called and who it's by? Thanks in advance.

I didnt see it but from your description it sounds like it could be Greenday - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).

Does anyone remember that closing theme that they used when Ethel Skinner died? It was nothing like the normal"Sad theme"at all.

Didn't Anita Dobson who played Angie Watts release the Eastenders Theme with Words in the late 80s and it was called "Anyone can fall in love" ? I think

And the way she sang it didn't do much to improve it.
