Has anyone ever done this??? In the shops they seem a little unsure if it's even possible.

It seems a cheaper option than using the blacberry bolt on from tmobile. it's a nicer/cheaper handset too.

It is possible, but you have to download a program from nokia to get the push email functionality. "Mail for Exchange", or "Blackberry Connect". Ive got a E61 on three, using Exchange email from fasthosts.co.uk and the nokia "Mail for Exchange" app. It works well but was a pain to get setup.

You have to set it to "always connected" which eats battery though, and without a mobile data plan like web'n'walk it could be expensive because it has to maintain the data connection perminantly.

So the E61 doesn't have the push e-mail service out the box??? i wonder if that's a licencing issue as they've bought the service from blackberry.

so are we saying it only works with MS exchance email servers, not just any old pop3/imap4 and smtp???

apparently with blackberry it only transfers ~10k a day to maintain the service.

Well it is, as its on the CD that is provided in the box.. its just not installed by default, (probably because only a limited number of people will actually need push email).

No. "Blackberry connect" and "Mail For Exchange" are two different applications, and without either peice of software installed it will still support POP3/IMAP4 "out of the box", but that would be just the same as your PC. ie, it would check every 5mins (or whatever you set it) to see if there are new messages on the server. That is not push-email.

The "Blackberry connect" program connects in the same way as push email on the blackberry does:

I Just use Exchange Email because... its better! You can always just set your existing pop3 email service (gmail etc) to forward mail to the hosted email service you have.
