Did anyone see the interview this morning on the BBc Breakfast programme - Martin Offiah was on he thought the comments were a lot more personal than they had been in his day. There was also a judge from the dancing world, she did seem inclined to think that the marks shouldn't be quite so variable and that Len does have lots of experience in the Ballroom/Latin world.
Why then was there the need for the attempt to "lead" the voting public to go against Brendan and Clare purely for their outburst.

Yup, I saw this and two things that stood out for me.

One was the experienced judge saying that it appeared that this year on SCD the judges already seemed to have their favourites at week ONE. She did seem to be backing Brendan's point of view. Incidentally the news people seemed to be backing him too....or was that just me?

The other (I literally applauded him!) was Martin Offiah saying that Arlene seems to 'be on heat every week' He said he was sorry for poor Mark. Was this the first time that anyone has mentioned Arlene's behaviour on tv? If so, it was about piggin' time!!

I don't understand the Beeb's apparent wish to paint the whole thing as a Brendan tantrum that had no reason - maybe they think it plays well to the tabloids etc and are thinking along the lines that any publicity is good publicity? Dunno.

Well I know several people have put in complaints about the extremes she's been going to recently. It's not appropriate for family TV, and openly drooling over men whose families are in the room is a wee bit gross. Someone definitely needs to point it out to her: she's getting worse and worse!

Replaying series 3, she did in fact say taut buttocks to James, but somehow it didn't seem as bad. And if the banter bordered on the risque it wasn't coarse, just fun.

Yes if I remember rightly Sharon Osborne got taken to task over her antics last year towards Shane on the X Factor - so how the wicked witch is getting away with I don't know!

Yes, it's definitely coarser this year.

Will she listen? Depends what the Beeb do about it. If they get enough complaints, they may make her listen. In the end, the Beeb won't let risk their reputation be damaged by a renegade judge, so IF (big if) they think she is going too far/causing too many complaints, they will do something about it.

Why is it when someone to do wiv SCD is doin a interview i always miss it!

I'm not a fan of arlene but I have to say in her defence, dancing is very physical and emotional. I just think she is very passionate and (unfortunately) says what she thinks. The physique of the dancer helps in making the dance look good. Why do you think they wear such skimpy clothing? To work every asset they have and grab attention.
I think in her mind she's building their confidence up when she makes those lewd comments as I'm sure most of the guys are feeling self-conscious about themselves. I think she's trying to weild them on to let themselves go with the dancing instead of against it, but it's just coming out the wrong way. As for family tv...I think watching soap operas does more damage than anything arlene has to say!

Possibly - but it bothers me that she says stuff like that when the families of the men involved are sitting in the room.

There's just a fine line that she keeps crossing. If I were Mark or Ray or another fit bloke she was loving up, I wouldn't want to have to go home to face questions like "what did the lady mean when she said you were hot and horny, daddy?" Commenting on a guy's masculinity or his taut buttocks is just about within the realms of dance related in a tango or a paso... some of the things she says are not.

I seem to recall her saying last year (I think to Lilia and Darren? Could be wrong) "next stop, the bedroom" - hopelessly inappropriate to two people who are married and whose families are watching or even in the room.

Just for an example - "You ignited my fire" - how about "you ignited the dancefloor"? Surely it doesn't take that much to get something that's understandable, says what she means (or very nearly) but isn't hopelessly inappropriate for 6.30.

I thought taut buttocks are important in pretty much all dancing for men and women. I remember in dance classes being told to tighten my buttocks for every turn, jump, walk etc I did
I just think it's all taken out of context and she just doesn't think before she speaks. I don't believe she is doing it deliberately for shock value. What Brendan and Claire did on saturday was more offensive (offensively bad that is). I'm sure they've told her to tone it down but she just seems to me, someone that gets quite emotional with dancing (I mean it is her profession) and just says things in the heat (no pun intended) of the moment.

I just thinking that 5 seconds thought about what she wants to say would help her to keep her comments appropriate. I agree about the buttocks by the way :lol: that is a dancing comment - some of her other comments are not.

She needs to think before she speaks..either that or keep taking the 'tablets'

How did I miss this? I had Breakfast on this morning too! I saw all the school dinner/big cave reports and got bored cause Bill wasn't presenting and there didn't seem to be any more news! Grrrrr!

I feel sorry for mark's wife. He is an excellent dancer and arlene should comment on that and that alone. Marks kids are normally sat in the audience for gods sake

I'm quite sure this series is much the worse regarding this sort of comment - as has been said it is watched by families, including my own, both my 15 and 9 year old love it .. some of the comments are well over my 9 year old's head, but are they necessary.

I did feel the judges were more controlled this week after last week's escapades.
