Why was Mark marked so highly when he stopped and started again? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that gritting one's teeth and coping with malfunctions was what you were supposed to do.

The dance was excellent.

Second time round.

Time one, he just froze!

One chance - mess that up tough luck. She could of untangled it herself. She didnt have to stop everything.

I don't think it "malfunctioned" - they actually physically couldn't carry on because his mic was attached to Karen's dress; meaning they couldn't move. I could understand what you're saying if it had been something trivial, but when it means you can't dance independantly from your partner I think they were right to stop and start over.

First of all OP, it was karen who stopped the dance.

Secondly his mic was stuck to Karen's dress.

I agree; I do think that they did very well considering the embarassment(sp?) that that must have caused, but I do think that they were perhaps marked a little highly...

I think that would have broken the ice and Mark would have been less nervous on his second attempt than if he had gone out and done it all in one go like everybody else has to do, which may have given him a small advantage in that sense...

I think that they should have started again from the point of the dance that went wrong- I don't believe that the dance up to that point was worth nines and think the marking should have taken their first attempt into account as well, even if they didn't want to mention the incident.

I think they were trying hard to carry on at first but she just couldn't move so they had no choice but to stop.

true, but at least darren could have continued even by himself if necessary. With Mark and karen they were physically unable to seperate from each other and so none of the planned choreography at all could have gone ahead.

they couldn't carry on because they were attached so the dance would have been impossible, it was right that they started again

Yes there was nothing Karen could physically do, last year when lilias strap broke she held it up and carried on, but Karen and Mark un able to seperate themselves. And maybe they were dropped a point for it...if they didnt get tangled up maybe arlene and bruno would have given 10s.

Lilia and Patsy had times when they were in danger of near breast exposure last year due to costumes falling apart, and carried on.

Ok, maybe it was impossible to keep dancing, but I think nine was high for a dance where that happened.

Sorry I don't agree - Lilia's dress did come apart - but it would not ( I reckon) have showed anything "untoward" as they are stapped in so tightly. If Mark and Karen were completely joined - their dance was pretty limited. And I'm pretty sure that unprofessional and Karen can not be uttered in the same sentence. She seems (to me) the most "professional" there.

They were attached to each other. When they stopped you could see a black wire between them (Mark's mic). I don't think they had any other option other than to stop and start again.

I think maybe they WERE makred down - were it not for the restart, I think there may have been a ten in the line up. (had they danced that well) I could be wrong...

Mark DID dance better 2nd time round - but it could have gone either way. Some people would have fallen apart, he went out and gave it 100% which is impressive.

There IS a big difference between a wardrobe malfunction and the dancers actually being joined and unable to dance.

I wasn't sure if they would be allowed to restart - I'm glad they did, because I thought it was fantastic. But I'm guessing it was at the producer's disgression. I guess M&K were fortunate, and there was enough time for the restart.

Thank you all those who realised it was near impossible for both of them to dance.

Lilia could still dance, as could Darren, and if she moans, she should just think it may have helped them both win the title.

They could of untangled it and then carried on from that point.

Difficult to call on this one

They were doing brilliantly up top the point at which they got tangled up - so who's to say that they wouldn't have got 10s had all gone right?

They were no doubt the best salsa of the night - and I think they'd have got top marks with the judges anyway given what we had already seen.....

maybe the 9's were a mark off for the malfunction......

It was impossible to carry on as they were completely tangled up and it was near the start so fair enough.

They were stuck together! (Oh why did I ever mention velcro.....)
I think they were marked down, there would have been 10s if things had gone smoothly.

Not really - when they stopped it looked obvious that they were attached pretty tightly; and at what part of a quite energetic routine where they suppose to untangle it? They would have got even more out of time and maybe messed up badly

It looked to me that the wire had actually gone around Karen and she couldn't move so I'm with everyone who said that it was right to call a halt and start again!
