I think if you look back, the OPs intention was to vent his/her frustration about the favouritism shown to E&D..... as such, I'm sure this wasn't meant to be an appreciation thread.

Rightly or wrongly, it is the OPs prerogative to seek opinions on any subject they like. Whether or not we choose to get involved in those threads is then down to us as FMs

I was upset to lose Anton and Jan tonight as I thought them a lovely couple and Jan was improving.

As for the 'advantage' (she can't have an unfair 'disadvantage' !!) she allegedly has - give it a rest. Louisa trained at the same school (and within the last few years). Emma trained there - what - 10-15 years ago??? You can forget a lot in that time! Not to mention the fact that she did not train in the samba, the foxtrot, the jive, the waltz etc etc et. What they undoubtedly trained in was movement and modern dance!!! How the hell is that going to help in ballroom? Anyone with natural rythm will have an advantage (like Mark or Ray - both of whom possess it in spades). You might just as well say that Claire has an unfair advantage because she rides and that means she's limber!!! It's all nonsense.

All this slating (of Emma or any of the celebrities or pros) is very unhealthy and very off-putting. It engenders bad feeling regardless of all the excuses those who are indulging in the nastiness make abolut it being their right. Of course it's everyone's right to criticise performances - but there's a way of doing it that isn't unpleasant and downright nasty. Unfortunately it seems to be endemic on these boards (and not just on the SCD boards either). It's a sad reflection on those who indulge in it and it could deter others who might want to join in for the first time from doing so because they don't want to become embroiled in something like this.

I agree 100%

Agreed.

Some people cannot accept that others have a different point of view.
Posts on "open forums" will be from a diverse selection of people each treating a topic in various degrees of seriousness and not necessarily consistently, because when it is all done it is just a message board.

Anyone can start a "topic" on any subject. If the first post is a negative comment on someone, it isn't up to anyone else to criticise them for having that opinion. They should just state their own and not try to "convert" others to their way of thinking.

Don't like a comment on a particular thread? Ignore it and move on.
If you quote someone's post and have a "go" at them, don't go all "huffy" if they respond in kind.
Too many people try to distort other poster's comments by taking a simple statement to complete extremes, just to justify with what they are going to respond. It's pointless because the "truth" can and will be posted back at you.

People appearing in SCD are being paid a lot of money for doing it. They don't need "protection" from anyone on here from critical comments. They are "fair game" whether you think so or not. It happens all the time in the press, why do you think a public message board should be any different?

Too many people on here want to tell others what they should or should not say. It's just juvenile behaviour in my opinion.
As long as what is posted falls within the rules of the board then it will stay on.

The topic we are all discussing is a light entertainment programme enjoyed by many because in the end it is just a bit of fun.

So lighten up those who want to treat it differently.

You'd think sometimes we were discussing ulcerative colitis or something serious!

1. Emma and Darren fans are not trying to 'convert' anyone in any way at all. We are purely expressing our opinion which we all have a right to do as FM's. I hope I speak for all of the E&D fans when I say that. We are just expressing our opinions like everyone else.
2. This forum seems awfully biased just for a bit of fun. I agree we all need to lighten up, not just the odd few.

Yes it does doesn't it?

"It's a good job there's a few like you and I who can keep a sense of proportion and not have favourites."

Of course I can't speak for "everyone" like you, I can only speak for myself.

Sorry, but I can't agree. You'll never stop people posting whatever they want. That's why you get a lot of duplication of threads. Whenever someone has "an original thought" they'll start a new thread.
There are dozens of threads which I never even study.
Why is there such clear evidence of "ganging up" by some when another person has a critical opinion on their "favourite" they just can't seem to let it go?

This is the first board in ages where someone has actually followed me from one thread (which I left alone after some "raging hostility") to another just to post a "smart assed" comment on my post.
Fortunately I'm laid back about it and can see the funny side of all the trivia we post. The worst I'll do is re-state my opinion.
But I do hate to see sweeping generalisations made by some and those "predicting" responses;
The "I 'spose (whoever) will be blamed for World War three now" (or whatever) and all that nonsense.
It's just childishness.

I meant this forum in general not just us E&D fans. Quite a few people in this forum seem biased. I was only speaking for myself aswell, but I'm sure that some E&D fans would agree with me on that point.

Strange - I said something to that effect on another thread and it was intended to be funny.

For someone who's porporting to see the lighter side of things, you sure do make a lot of serious comment on others' posts - some of which were intended as lighthearted comment themselves.

I'm sorry you feel that you're being 'followed' from thread to thread - Paranoia much? Just to clarify, I'm sure you personally are not followed from thread to thread (believe me, you're not that important!). You just tend to post in the same threads which are seen to be 'attacking' certain celebs and when those threads occur, of course those who defend those celebs are going to retaliate in them - not just against anything that you have said but against others, too.

And the reason I'm responding now? Because as I'm sure you have said elsewhere (and if not, why not?) it's a free forum and one shouldn't feel restricted from replying to someone - although I do always try to keep my remarks polite and I don't tend to enter threads which pertain to those in whom I have no interest or actually don't like much (and any dislike is more my problem than that of the celebrity/etc. After all, it's not like they've done anything to deserve it nor do I know them well enough or at all).

I still don't get why you feel celebrities or anyone with talent (as most of those on SCD have - in whatever field in which they operate) deserve to be attacked by people who don't actually know them. It strikes me that you could do something much more worthwhile with your energies (as could anyone who feels the same way). Why expend it on someone with whom you have no dealings, are not likely to meet / have never met and who hasn't done anything to you personally?

That was just a question, incidentally. Not some kind of demand that you desist. I would never do that. We still have freedom of speech in this country (just!) - but I just don't get why people have to be so negative or critical all the time. Real life is depressing enough!

And with that, I'm off to a jollier thread again!

They will be in the same position as Zoe last year, although, to be fair, I think Zoe was actually better, her partnership was stronger and she improved each week.

You are so wrong in calling them "icy Indviduals". Emma and Darren always give a performance deserving of the top three.

She is not as good as Jill Halfpenny IMO but not far behind.
If Jill was to be first Emma would come second.

Hate to annoy people with this but I do agree with you totally 100%. It disi seem like a coinidence (sp) I have to say... You do have a good point there. I personally defend Emma because she is talented. And Darren because he is one of the nicest people I could have ever met! Hence my reasons for feeling so strongly about people who criticise Darren and Lilia, they are both lovely, just to add.

No I said "followed by one poster" once

Not quite the same as you are implying is it?

Hardly "paranoia" either is it?

But thanks for posting an excellent example of what I was commenting upon.

Actually that's not quite what you said - but never mind. And - for god's sake I didn't follow you here! I tend to go into threads which interest me (Mark and Karen, Anton, etc etc), and occasionally respond to others. You're certainly not the only one I respond to or ever have responded to!

*Sigh*.

di60, It's amusing that you think I'm obsessive! I'm not, actually and I haven't mentioned Darren and Emma here (yes, I am aware this is the Emma and Darren thread). I just don't understand this prediliction toward attacking people on the TV regardless of who they are. Maybe I'm just not that way inclined but I would much rather do other things. I do enjoy this forum and I enjoy posting on here. Strange as it may seem, I don't particularly enjoy this kind of debate (although I do actually enjoy a good, healthy debate). But it doesn't mean to say I can't join in if I want to. And I am sure you would agree that it is my right as much as it is yours.

Actually I didn't say it was you who followed me here as it wasn't and I don't think I personally called you obsessive, but the inclusion of those points does make your post better reading.

But carry on...

Though Sara-flute (I'm Doghouse- keyboards, alto/tenor sax by the way) has given you some good advice.

I actually owe Doghouse an apology on this.

I have just amended my post to reflect the part of my response that should have been directed to the original poster.

Cally's mum, thanks for that, but it isn't important.
It's all just trivia on here (mine too) and I'll have forgotten all about it in a very short space in time.
