Emma only received half a sentence which could be construed as in any way criticism, and even then the judge (Len) said it was "a wow of a dance",whereas Louisa had quite a few negative comments to be honest, and her salsa wasn't great, steps Ok but no real "feel". So I don't believe in all honesty that that is a valid criticism of the editing. I would stress too that of course, none of the dancers has any control over this, although I know you were not blaming them personally for this.
It is a shame if this is affecting peoples view, because I don't actually think the BBC need to "promote" Emma to be honest, if that is what they are trying to do, because she does have genuine dance talent. I could understand them maybe wanting to do that if she didn't, but they should realise it isn't necessary, as realistically she should be in the show for at least a few weeks yet. It will never be a real level playing field when some have more talent for dance than others anyway.
I think overall the couples were correctly placed tonight, so I personally don't have a problem with the marks allocated.”
Hmmm.
I'm still of the opinion that the comment on Louisa was the worst of those made by the four judges and on Emma the most complimentary.
It is inescapable that those remarks about all four competitors were included by the producer, designed not just to "help" the viewers as stated by Bruce (but in the case of the two upon whom I'm commenting) really as an attempt to influence them.
Why were these remarks included at all?
All the viewing public had an opportunity to see the dances.
The only justification could be that the BBC think their "target audience" has the memory span of a goldfish. (they may be right with some).
Also to suggest "it isn't ever going to be a level playing field because of differences is ability" isn't really a reason to defend the BBC, because this should be the last of the competitors' problems, should it not?
My complaint is the BBC are influencing the balance and running of this programme to boost the ratings because they want to always beat ITV and X-factor. You don't have to be a dance teacher to recognise "an agenda."
I really don’t care who wins, it’s just good entertainment. But despite what they say “to camera” and it all gets edited anyway to project the balance the producer wishes to achieve, I bet a few of the competitors aren’t exactly best pleased with the situation.
