DTS 'Out' or DTS 'Surround'
I ve noticed this on some Home Cinema systems- what is the difference between the two?
Is one better than the other, or is it that DTS Surround is a more 'all in one' type of system??? |

DTS out means the player will output the digital stream to an amplifier that supports DTS decoding.
DTS surround means that the player will decode the stream and send it to the speakers without the help of an external amp. |

Afficienados of DTS (Digital Theatre System) are often quoted as saying it sounds a little bit better than that other known 5.1 system i.e. Dolby Digital. I have both, and on those DVD's that have the two systems encoded on them then I must say that DTS usually does have the edge. Difficult to say exactly why, but I think it's marginally clearer and seems to 'sparkle' more. I think that DTS is somewhat less compressed too so maybe that's why.
