I would imagine that those who did the salsa this week will do the American smooth and the V. waltz folk will do the samba.

Definitely not! Urgh, I hate the samba, so few of the couples ever get it right.

I wish they would all do the same dance. It would be so much fairer to judge !

Does anyone know how dances are allocated to the couples?

I presume that they try to make it so that each couple dances an equal number of Latin and ballroom dances, but who decides each, and how?

Not being a dancer, it seems that there are accepted dances in both disciplines that are more difficult for technical or speed reasons, so it would seem unfair if one particular couple were given all the 'hard' ones to do, whilst others got the 'easier' options.

Or - do they put equal (or as near as possible) numbers of cards for each of the two dances chosen for each week and draw them out of a hat for each couple

I think, in other series ( I'm quite happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, cos I quite often am!!!) all dancers eventually did all dances, but they seem to have introduced more this year (more couple, I know), so if this is so, the same set of dances should start coming round again soon for those who are left - there must be some dances that are easier to pick up when you've had some experience than when you are a COMPLETE beginner, although I suppose this doesn't make any difference as all the couples should be getting better week by week..

OK waffling now, so I'll stop

There must be someone out there who knows.......

I would expect Mark and Karen to do the American Smooth as they have had two latin dances in a row.

Last year the dances were so mixed up it was very confusing! Or perhaps that was just the last part of the series as they were trying to make everyone do the dances they hadn't done. It seemed more mixed up than usual.. I think people kept going out who had done the same dances. I guess this will be the last week of only 2 dances... I think after that it will be a case of going back to dances they haven't done... unless they're doing Argentine Tango as a separate dance this year? And then maybe they'd need another social dance they haven't done yet? I'll have to figure out the maths I hope they do more group dances this year.. I loved the group salsa and group argentine last year!

Is it definite that its the American Smooth and Samba? Because the samba has always been used as the dance where everyone dances the same.

In previous seasons they started off with the gender-break and then try to keep a balance in the gender but have to take into account a) whose been voted off and b) the placings in the cumulative table.

So far that system seems to work for this series. On that basis, the only dancer to change would be Carol Smillie. Here's my thoughts
first choice) Carole and Matthew dancing the samba instead of the American Smooth

second choice) the producers realise there could be further problems with the professionals so offer the choice to Carol and Louisa and their respective partners who switch so Carol dances American Smooth and Louisa dances Samba.

third choice) no elimination this week (its definitely on its way I thought itwould be 18th November (after CIN) but after all the comments about nobody going out from absolutely everyone last night, it could be next week.

last choice) the BBC production team read this and think they have to justify their high salaries and think no smart-alec nerd who spends their time on the internet is going to second guess us.

Oh, I hope Carol doesn't get stuck with the Samba - two dances in a row that won't suit her! Although she was pretty good if a little lacking in energy last night.

Yes, the mix of dances got really weird last year as I remember.

Be interesting to see how they work it out. Some couples seem to have more unbalanced repertoires so far than others eg - M&K have only done one ballroom I think? and E&D have only done one Latin? Whereas I think L&V have done 2 of each... So I'd imagine they'd at least start by evening out the dancing of the couples who've had a very lopsided competition so far, and then fit the others round that? No idea how it works though - just speculation.

Team Cutler would just say "bring it on" but if you see my post above, I think there's a possibility that she may get the American Smooth.

I think the split will be

American Smooth
Claire & Brendan (4 latin, 1 ballroom so far)
Matt & Lilia (4 latin, 1 ballroom)
Mark & Karen (4 latin, 1 ballroom)

Samba
Peter & Erin (2 latin, 3 ballroom)
Emma & Darren (2 latin, 3 ballroom)
Ray & Camilla (3 latin, 2 ballroom - did ballroom week 5)

And I can't decide how they will split these 2
Carol & Matt (3 latin, 2 ballroom - did latin week 5)
Louisa & Vincent (ditto)

I hope Brendan and Vincent both do the American Smooth... I just love the dance and would love to see both of them dancing it... Especially because I feel this might be one of the last weeks we see Brendan... And I think it would be a nice dance for Claire to prove she can be elegant and to make up for Louisa's foxtrot...

It's cruel but I really hope Peter has to do the Samba, he's had quite an easy draw since he's so much better at Ballroom and he's needs to do a bit of Latin!!
