Just dipping my toe in ......

Guys

Am about to move house - the folk living there have a wall mount telly and I've got to admit it looks great.

Currently have a 32inch widescreen CRT, very deep as you can imagine. Subscriber to Sky+ but am not fussed about Sky HD - I give them too much money as is.

Telly has two SCARTS at the minute, one is used for DVD, one for video. RF1 on Sky to the telly and RF2 to the remote eye in my bedroom. Could do with a third SCART because I also watch some stuff from my laptop and have a cable from that to SCART.

So ..... anyone give me some advice? Basically I want a wall mountable telly for about £1000-£1200 with enough inputs for the needs I've mentioned. A bigger screen than 32inch would be good. Not overly fussed about inbuilt freeview or whatever as I have Sky.

I've seen the Hyundai HPT-4260 [Plasma] in Tesco for just shy of £800 but having read around there are mixed reviews. I'd be sat about 10-12 feet away from the telly but even looking at it close up in Tesco [admittedly dunno what the quality of the input was] the footy looked great. In fairness, it'd be mainly for watching footy and DVD's - don't tend to watch too much regular telly these days.

Like I said .... I'm new to all this and I know what the net is like, one man's nectar is another man's poison, so I've done the research on the plasma -v- lcd stuff and apart from longevity issues with plasma everything else seems down to the way you treat the unit. One thing that did concern me was burn in - what's the score with that when watching Sky channels that have logos on the screen all the time?

Any help that anyone could give woild be good ...... and anyone who has a Hyundai HPT-4260 please let me know how you've got on with it.

if you are not insistant thats its HD ready try the Panasonic PH42PWD8 (42") from Richer Sounds at £799.95

its HD compatible and will blow away many supposed HD ready plasma's costing a lot more

i've just sold mine to move up to a 50" panny but i used the PWD8 with Sky HD over component and its was superb

its a panel ONLY so you need your tuner and an av sound system (although it has 2no speaker terminals that you can use with its internal amp if you don't want to go for a full 5.1 system)

it has 3no input slots in the rear and can take scart/component/s vid/hdmi input boards etc - it you need more inputs than the panel can support you can always used switching boxes

oh and i fogot it comes with pc input and VGA input included

easily wall mounted and looks very smart as it has a small surround!

if you want any more info just ask (btw have a look on AVforums where you will see how highly its rated)
