Not quite, I'm talking about Craig's behaviour, after the event. I'm neither excusing nor commenting on Jan's.

Geddit?”

Gosh, I can see why you sympathise with Jan - you tend to get a little over-emotional yourself, don't you?
Obviously I think I'm right, as do you.
Personally, I think it was quite decent of Craig to try and comfort Jan. It's a pity it didn't work. What a shame this 'comedienne' can't take it as well as she dishes it out.

Err Jan? Sympathies? No. I've never watched a programme in which she's appeared.
I've not got an opinion on her. I've only commented on the "highly charged atmosphere" and the effect it has.

What part of "Criticise in public, apologise in private" did you not understand?
I'd have said that of anyone.

There wouldn't have been a problem after the live show if Craig had kept his mouth shut.

As usual "etiquette" goes out the window on this board when someone disagrees with an opinion so the "slagging" commences.

I'd never accuse you of getting "over emotional" or other such nonsense, regardless of what I thought.

If you read your own post back you may notice that you adopted a rather hectoring and aggressive tone. I drew attention to this. I was not "slagging" and am sorry if you feel "slagged" by my comment.

I daresay you are right and there wouldn't have been a problem after the show if Craig had kept his mouth shut, but why shouldn't he be able to approach a colleague in a social environment without her (or her unstable spouse) going off on one?

Why should reasonable people not be able to behave in a reasonable manner just in case an unreasonable person finds it impossible to keep their temper?

Yes but it wasn't directed at you, unless you are CRH

In which case "I claim my five pounds."

I was referring to the later posts, but as I am neither CRH nor Jan's excitable husband I won't make an issue of it - and I'm afraid you don't get your five pounds!

I wonder why people chose to boo when Jan got booted off? I thought she deserved to go more than Claire.

There was a link to a blog on one of the Mark threads about the night by someone in the audience. Going by what they said it seemed more to do with the audience on the night wanting Brendan out, who apparently was unpopular with the crowd. Don't know how true that is, just one person's opinion.

I think it was because of the atmosphere that had been created up to that point. Brendan and Claire got a very good reception when they went on to dance. I don't know what changed that apart from maybe the video clips and Tess' remark. It wont have been because of the dance or Brendan's behaviour as I read from someone who was there, that Brendan spent a lot of time with people from the audience and was very friendly.
Perhaps it was just a vocal minority as normally people do not boo even if a better dancer has to leave e.g. Spoony rather than Georgina

Well, she did have her family in the audience...

I don't think Craig endeared himself to anyone with his marking criteria.

Jan couldn't understand why having made all that effort to improve he'd not given her any more marks. Getting on his "high horse" and dismissing her with; "it wasn't worth any more" didn't help.
Of course the problem was that he wasn't marking her against her performance but against those who'd danced before.
This is the usual problem, demonstrated by the fact that in one week Bruno had to give Louisa a "10" because she was better than Emma to whom he'd already given a "9".
It just demonstrates that apart from Len the others are naff at marking, but then he does a bit of "evening up." Craig was OK earlier but he's now demonstrating he also has a "favourite."

I was in the audience last Saturday as well, and no-one near me booed at all. I was very surprised to hear the booing (coming from the opposite side of the studio) and people around me looked startled too.

I did not get a feeling that people in the studio were anti-Claire and Brendan but then I didn't go around interviewing the audience so who knows.

Come to think of it, the booing did come from the direction of the friends and family ( ). Also, there was a BBC "master of ceremonies"-type man there who was giving instructions to a certain part of the audience about when to clap, boo, cheer etc, and that was also the direction the boos came from.

Why doesn't that surprise me Shappy - it was probably part of the agenda on Saturday. It is a pity if it gave people at home a false impression

Which thread is this on? I'd be interested to read it.

Well, I have no basis for saying this, as I wasn't there, but if it came from the friends and family area, I think it is more likely to be Jan's friends and family, going on later behaviour - out of disappointment for Jan rather than wish to get at Brendon - rather than BBC conspiracy. I hated the booing and I'm not defending it, but I would see it as pro-Jan and all her 'hard work' rather than anti Brendon personally.

I read somewhere that it was Jan's family doing the booing

To: Shappy, The blog is on the Karen and Mark thread p.44 if I'm correct.

..be interested to hear an expanded account of your night, too, Shappy! Or did I miss it? Was it you who posted briefly about meeting Brendan?

Sorry, totally off topic...
Shappy

Yes, yes, must write that up. And yes, it was me who gave a rather detailed report of my encounter with Brendan.

Which thread shall I put my report on?

Erm. I guess either the Saturday show thread, or start a new one?? I can't be the only person who wants to read all about it, and I imagine you'd have things to say of interest about more than one celeb or dancer...?

Thanks, this was a good read. Cool to hear somebody else's view on it, her experience sounds similar to mine except the very biggest highlight of my night was meeting the dancers/celebs after the show so I guess I was lucky to have got seats on the ground floor and not the balcony (which would have made it harder to get on the dancefloor afterwards).

Judging from where the person who blogged was sitting, I think they were the same side as family and friends, and if the booing did come from the Ravens' camp, then more shame them.

*Whispers quietly* Did you meet Mark then ?
