Is it worth getting the Nokia 6280’s software upgraded?

Is it worth getting the Nokia 6280’s software upgraded?

I have got a Nokia 6280 Software v 03.70 (28-03-06 RM-78) on the three network. I have been very disappointed with the phone.
Even with moderate use (e.g. 20 minutes of calls) the battery can only last about 12 hours from full charge.
Also, when being used it has developed a tendency to restart itself. So, I am making a phone call or sending a text and then it just restarts.
So I am wondering is it worth getting three to take the phone away and upgrade the software? Is the new software much better?
Thanks for any help.

It's worth getting the nokia version of the software and not the one that three have screwed around with.

yeah turning off GPRS, Bluetooth and 3G will help

But should you really have to do that to get more than 12 hours out of your battery?

My K750i always lasted 4/5 days of reasonably heavy use with Bluetooth and GPRS turned on.

No you shouldn't have to it's a big lithium polymer battery 1100mAh i believe.

But the three firmware is awful.

Ah, why do networks have to **** about with the firmware?

Back in the days when all the networks did was to lock the phone and change the boot/shutdown screens!

Three make it so you can not turn off the 3g signal because they want to be a 3g only network, but as this is not possible at the moment even for the larger networks then they have to piggyback off other networks. They do not want you to have the ability to stay on 2g as it costs them more you doing so.

I'm suprised 3 are still with us, thought they'd have gone under a long time ago!

they are backed by a multi billion £ company, and have projected losses for the first 10 years

there is a thread here about flashing the firmware back to the nokia version using the nokia firmware updater.

It's not in your interest to do this anyway.

Remember 3 switch to T-mobile for backup coverage in 8-12 weeks anyway, you're gonna need that extra 3G coverage!
