Transferring HDD recording to DVD problem
Stephen93
06-11-2006
Initially I transferred Prime Suspect 1 & 2 to the 440HS DVD recorder from Sky+ thought I'd be able to watch it on my other DVD player (the DVD-DISC is a DVD-RW),
I finalised it but the DVD player said there was no disc in, so I put the disc back in the 440 tranferred both Prime Suspects to the HDD, initialised the DVD to DVD video as it was on VR mode & I suspect the DVD player could recognise it, (it's a bog standard Tesco Technica DVD 105)

Then I managed to transfer one Prime Suspect back onto the DVD but the 2nd episode it said unable to fast copy from HDD to DVD, I can't understand why & can't figure out what to do, can anyone help?

P.S. I have some DVD-RAM discs are they better that DVD-RW can you do more with them? I know the Tecknica won't play DVD-RAM though

Thanks Steve

Has it got any aspect ratio changes in the recording, e.g. during advert breaks ?

This definitely sounds like a problem with aspect ratio.

Pioneers allow "Frame accurate" copy for VR discs, which also allow mixed aspect ratios within a title, or "Frame accurate off" which is for video mode discs. It sounds a lot like you've retained the mode for use with VR discs, and this means you can't quickly copy the mixed aspect video.

How you change the mode differs between models, but with the modern players it should detect the disc type or ask what kind of copy list you want - just make sure you start a new copy list so you get given the choice.

Now, when you add the mixed aspect title to the copy list, it'll be broken into new titles when the ratio changes. Delete the unwanted sections, and join the remaining titles, then start the copy.

(All this info should be correct, but since the names of the different modes and the way you select the one you want differs between models, you may have to look in the manual for more details)
