Does anyone have one of these? If so are they as good as they say? Could someone do a mini review with pics?

Also does anyone know where we can get one with a 5 yer warranty for around £1700?

Thanks in advance

I've been considering this screen too.

Looks superb in the local Sony shop.

They are £1500 on amazon.co.uk at present, but with std warranty I think. Don't know if you can extend it. Might get it for £50 less if you shop around.

When in the Sony Shop I asked how close they can get to matching internet prices. Manager said they normally do pretty well, but you have to take in details of the specifics you want them to try and match i.e. they need to check it's an identical model etc.

I'll be taking them 2-3 different print outs and if they can get within £50 of them think I'll buy from Sony directly.

Eh? Sony centres are not owned by Sony. They are just shops like anyone else. Buy from John Lewis and get the 5 year gurantee.

Didn't know that. I presumed I'd get the best levels of customer service by using them on the off chance I ever had any problems with it.

They seemed to be the only place nearby that had the screens set up properly and actually looking good.

Can I please ask anyone who may know:

What do standard def broadcasts look like on this screen?

What is the difference between the W model and the supposedly top-of-the-range X model? Is there a difference in picture quality?

Anyway I went to the Sony Centre took a look at all the TV's put the bloke through his paces. What I looked at and bought was the KDL-40W2000, was mighty impressed with the 46 incher though!

Anyway got him to rig it up to standard def through a normal arial on analouge, picture was good no artifacts at all which aint bad considering it was through distro system with over 20 other tv's connected.

Then I got him to show me it with normal sky, first station was sky news, not a great picture so got him to try other channels, was mighty impressed, looked very good. Was not surprised by sky news with the rubbish picture, after all there is a lot been compressed on that channel.

And finaly tried it with some Sky HD, was absolutly blown away the picture was imense, but before I placed my order I checked to see if they would price match, and they did

So with that I told him I could get it cheaper from http://www.robertwhyteltd.co.uk/ with a 5 year warranty. Robert Whyte is selling it for £1699 with that all important warranty.

Excellent news, he went away and checked the site said he would match that price and get this, Sony give me £100 cash back, but it gets even better, there was no sticker on it like all the others offering Sky+ HD so i asked him if i couldget that with this telly, he went to ask the gaffa and came back with the following:- Yes mate you can have Sky HD half price (shy kids and all that!), So we pay £149 for Sky HD and the and extra £10 it will cost for it.

All I have to do is fill the form out for sky and they will arrange to install it.

The TV is coming next thursday it would of been this week had they any left in stock.

I got the TV from the Sony Centre in Sunderland, which I must say gave excellent service. The TV is coming from the main distro centre in Newcastle once they get some more in.

Very happy customer, can't wait to hook my 360 up to it...

Once i get it I will take some photos and maybe even do a mini review if I get enough interest.

How many HDMI sockets are there on the KDLW2000, and how heavy is the set?

Like, would it be possible for one man to single-handedly drag it up a set of stairs? (as crazy as that sounds lol)

2 HDMI sockets. As for how heavy it is - i own this set and it is the lightest telly i have ever had! The included stand weighs it down when attached. Go on everyone - get this set if the budget allows. I am blown away by its performance.

Thanks.

Do you have yours standing solely on the floor or have you it placed on top of an TV Unit to hold SKY+ box, amp, dvd player etc......?

I'd need a TV Unit if I was to get one and was wondering would this elevate the TV too much causing awkward viewing?

I have my Bravia on a 3 tier black glass shelf [half price at Comet,Curry`s etc]. It does not elevate it to a great height. I am only 5ft 2" [2ft when sat down lol].

It causes me no discomfort looking up at this TV. It is much better than the old 32" crt Sony i had. Anyone bigger than me would be well suited to this set on a stand.

By the way, connected my new Xbox 360 to the set today - absolutely mind blowing graphics and sound etc.

are you just using the TV's sound system or have you got a 5.1 setup to go with it?

I have just biefly read the spec for the Sony and I notice it doesn't have progressive scan. Is this an issue?
I thoguht Progressive scan improved the picture quality.
Does it mean the screen is interlaced?

It is progressive, all LCDs are progressive. Not all take a full 1080 inout as progressive (p, tyhis one does) though all HD LCDs take 576 (Standard def tv, DVD) as progressive and 720p (lower end HD).

got sorted with my sky hd after con`bell and conn`edy finally got me a box that works...

Only problem is if you have it hooked up to your pc via the VGA socket you cant get a higher res than 1300x756 or somthing like that, not sure why it limits it as the screen is supposed to be full 1080p around the 1900x1200 mark, unless i am mistaken???????

The full res is 1920*1080 (hence "1080p")

The TV will take this via the HDMI sockets without problem (you should se the pixel to pixel option in the set up menu for that input) and users are reporting it will also take it via VGA when using an Xbox360 but not with a PC (this may well be fixed by later graphics card driver releases).

Buy a DVI-HDMI lead and connect your PC that way.

If your PC doesn't have a VGA out, either buy a new graphics card that does or try updating your drivers and trying any "force resolution" type options you have.

I have to say took delivery of this TV a week ago, connected to Sky+ and Telewest cable. The picture in my opinion is worse than my old Sony 32" CRT model. Even when viewing DVDs the detail in the picture wavers in and out. Its particularly noticeable on close up facial shots, the wrinkles come and go! I have just been watching the snooker on BBC2 and the is a 'square' of pixelated data around every ball and motion blur when they are moving. Think I need to go back to the Sony centre?

How are SKY and Telewest boxes these both connected? SCART? Make sure both are outputting RGB as a start. Be aware that blocking on low quality signals will look more evident here - LCDs show up imperfections in the pic and your screen is much larger than your old one. CRT would have blurred out the blocking so you would not have seen it but it's there in the original pic.

Freeview will often give a better picture than Sky due to higher bit rates and resolutions for some channels.

Lastly make sure you have turned off the standard noise reduction - the standard settings are dreadful and need to be modified to get the best from this TV.

Try:
Mode CUSTOM (this is very important "VIVID" wrecks the pic)
Backlight 3
Contrast 90
Brightness 40
Colour 45
colour temp: warm1
Sharpness 6
Noise reduction OFF (you probably have this on maybe even high and this is what is making the blur and detail loss)

Advanced settings
Contrast enhance OFF
Black Corrector OFF
Gamma LOW
Live colour OFF
Colourspace WIDE
MPEG NR: LOW

Apply to all inputs and tweak from there to what you're happy with.

EDIT: and connect your DVD by component or HDMI if it can. If it can't buy one that does. Even £50 players have these connections these days and outputting a progressive signal from a DVD is far superior.
