Was told about this today. Free to sign up to but seems extremely expensive for someone to call you on. I can understand the idea but the website looks a bit cheesy to me.

Try www.flextel.com instead. You don't get a voicemail, but as the calls get diverted to your mobile, you can use the voicemail from your network provider.

Calls to Flextel's 0701* numbers cost 35ppm

It's a con but a legal one.

The numbers they 'supply' are specifically chosen because people assume they are calling a mobile number when, in fact, they are calling a number which costs many times more to call.

The example they give, 070129 (which they even have the nerve to say "look similar to mobile numbers") costs 47½p per minute to call at any time from a BT landline and heaven knows how much from a mobile or cable landline).

Don't fall for it!

The only safe thing about it is they're safe in the knowledge they're going to make a bundle out of it!

These calls are also not included in people's mobile minutes. So you will be conning your friends who have paid for 500 minutes a month and talk to you for 60 minutes not realising it's just cost them £27.60

Not a good way to keep friends!.

Not really a con as such, unless you don't tell the people you give the number to the true cost. The 07 series of numbers are assigned as "personal numbers" which includes mobiles, pagers, and these number router services.

Just remember that mobiles are 077, 078 and 079, and these redirector numbers usually start 070 and 071.

I think it is a con, a 60 minute call costing nearly 30 pounds - yet the number you dialed looks like a standard cost - inclusive minutes number.

These are the same numbers that terminate at the bedside units of many hospitals. My partner was in hospital having just given birth to our daughter, and there was me chatting to her on the phone via my mobile for a lot of the time that i wasn't in the hospital. All fine and dandy until my bill arrived, clucking bell it was something like £350. My advice is this - don't phone such numbers - unless you are very rich and don't care how much your bill racks up!

You can get an 0871 10p a minute number that will translate into your UK Mobile No,from www.cheapercallrate.com if you want an alternative no to give out. In fact calling it from a landline at peak rate it will probaly be cheaper then calling mobile number.

When I’ve called these 070 numbers used on the hospital phones systems I’ve heard a recorded message at the start saying calls are 49p per minute peak, and 39p at all other times. Didn’t you get this?

No. It's not a requirement for 070 numbers and, surprise surprise, they don't do it voluntarily!
