Am I being dim?

Just got myself a new TV - rigged up the DVD, Sky, Video etc and now when I use my DVD remote control to say fast forward it changes the TV channel and stops the DVD playing - can anyone shed any light on this?
Sorry for sounding like a total girl!

Sounds like a clash to me, I have a similar problem with the remote for my Digifussion FVRT100 and a Hitatchi LCD tv, both remotes opertate the other piece of kit, although the hitatchi tv remote causes more chaos on the freeview box that the freeview box remote does on the hitatchi..

The only solution I can think of is either use another tv (I guess that's not an option) or get hold of a different DVD player.

There is a partial, possible solution. The infra red sensor on the tv can be temporarily covered up (by a small piece of cardboard or similar) . That would definitely stop the tv switching (assuming you can live with the inconvenience of removing the card when you wish to change the tv).
