Dartford Dancer
06-11-2006
For me they just don't look right on dancers. Mica's was dire and Matthew Cutler's sparkled up one on Saturday looked like they were trying to turn it into butch jewellery.

I must be getting old but they look so naff!

no tru i think all dancers should have some style and tatoos are not in any style category

i agree totally mica's were just nasty and the glitter on matts just looked ridiculous. i am not a fan of tattoos at all and am only young so hopefully thats not a sign of getting old.

They do look a bit incongruous these days. I particularly noticed Mica's on her upper arm.

Amy Winehouse on "Later with Jools Holland" the other night had two large ones on her upper arms. She wore a short sleeveless "Doris Day" type dress. The total image looked ridiculous.

Tattoos on women can be a bit of a turn off and now they are all a rather passé.

I noticed "Tattooed Spice" hid hers completely on SCDT2 the other week.
Applied in a comparative "moment" of stupidity and then lifetime of regret for some.
They will look really "tasty" when these women are fifty.

I have always quite liked tattoos as long as they are done tastefully. I particularly like Maori designs as they look strong and beautiful without looking crass. I remember seeing a guy once who had a dragon that went over pectoral and had the tail wrapping round his upper arm. Amazing piece of art.

I thought it was very clever what they did with Matt's tattoo on Saturday - it looked to me like they used the same stones as from Carol's dress and was a great detail.

I have several tattoos, which I love (or I wouldn't have had them done), and I'm quite happy to walk around in T-shirts in the summer with the ones on the back of my shoulder displayed.

However, if I were dancing and wearing one of those LOVERLY flowy dresses or even a non-dress like some of the salsa ones (heaven forbid, that would send my male partner running in terror!!!), I would want them covered as I don't think it goes with the image!

I wouldn't have minded Matthew's tattoo during the salsa if it hadn't been covered in sparkle - that was VERY camp, and gorgeous though he is, he doesn't need any help in that area

Iwas surprised they didn't cover up Micas, it did make her look a bit like a trucker in a pretty dress!

Matts don't bother me so much, I kind of like tats on men.

I agree. Large ones on women can look tacky though. I am considering one myself - but something small and discreet

Err..
Google "Tramp stamps" and you'll get a selection.

I just linked one that would be suitable for "family viewing."

I thought the glitter on Matt's tattoo was quite a nice touch, to match Carol's dress.

Can't usually stand "tatts" myself...... although I'd like to see more of Mr Cutler's....... the more cut-off shirts they can get him into the better

Well I said the same thing about Mica's tatoo, that if it had been glittered up a bit, it would have looked better. I liked what hey did with Matthews, thoguth it looked good.

But, I agree that tattoo's can spoil things IF they are big, or in certain places, like on the upper arm for ladies. A bit too much like a sailor fo rmy liking!

When I was competing, tattoo's on ladies were frowned upon, but I always wanted one. Now I no longer dance competitively, I got a tattoo to mark a significant birthday. It's on my wrist and very delicate. The design has a special meaning, it's very significant and I love it to bits.

I'm with the OP, can't stand tats AT ALL and certainly not exactly ballroom is it.

I've never been a lover of tattoos. I've always thought the look a bit "common", especially on women.

However, I did like the way they glittered-up Matt's tattoo on Saturday. I thought it was a nice touch, and was in keeping with the salsa.

I have a small butterfuly tattoo on my mid-back, sort of over the kidney. It was painful beyond words and bled like bilio. I suppose mine could be covered by my dance dress unless I was doing the Samba in skimpy wear.

From what I remember Matt Cutler only had his tattoo done after he gave up competitive dancing. I could be wrong but I seem to remember that when he retired from competing he said he could finally get the tattoo he wanted.
I would say it doesnt exactly go with the "dancer" image but that's why he only had it done after he left the floor, I think the sparkles were the BBC wardrobe department playing around - they did look a little camp but I think that was probably the point - they can't have been trying to disguise it with sparkles. If they wanted to get rid of it they'd have used tattoo concealer like many competitive dancers do.

Nah, he had it during Burn the Floor in 1999 but it was smaller. He just added to it!
