No Elimination One Week ??
Maryjay
08-11-2006
When Strictly lost the lovely Jimmy Tarbuck, if we can remember that far back, would this not have upset the balance of having a celeb eliminated each week. I think it was the week Spoony/Ola went out, so technically, two celebs left in one week.

I assume a certain number of weeks are put aside for this fantastic competition/entertainment by the Beeb with the final at the end (a good place for it) and wonder if this threw a spanner in the works so to speak.

Perhaps they have rescheduled or perhaps they will have one week when no one goes out to compensate !

Does any one know?

Auntie Beeb is keeping very shtumm on this one.....which translates as they haven't got a foggiest what they're doing!

Seems strange that they didn't have a ready-set contingency plan ~ but then again I was surprised when Craig said they'd never discussed what would happen if something went wrong in the live show (as indeed it did on saturday).

"Seat", "pants", and "flying by".....

On the departure of Jimmy Tarbuck the BBC PR people announced there would be an "exciting twist" later in the series.
The "old ploy" of having a; "Surprise! Surprise! No one goes out this week!" wouldn't be "exciting" but certainly would be a bit of a "twist!"

Let's imagine that they could pull this one out of the bag, how on earth are they going to do the show with no eviction ? They would lose out on loads of CIN votes (whole point of the show) and we wouldn't know until it was too late (voting all week people would feel cheated). However, the fact that we vote to keep someone in rather than vote to evict could mean that the twist would work. We could have a "vote one of your evicted faves back in" twist too but I think there would be far too much controversy if this were to happen. In short, I have no idea how they might solve this problem......

I suspect that if they do the 'no elimination' one week now then there will be certain elements of the viewing public who will shout 'unfair' and quite rightly so because it should have been done the week Tarby went or not at all.

For example, if by some weird chance we have Emma and A N other as the final two, with the public vote deciding Emma should go - will the BBC use the 'No elimination' that week to keep one of the favourites to win in? Thus treating the viewing public like imbeciles and making the entire show a farce.

If they were going to do this, they should have done it immediately - it is now too far down the line to do it without seriously jeopardising the credibility of the show and it's producers.

Just to be clear, I used Emma as an example, no bashing intended!

Hmmm..

Sorry but I subscribe to the view that the whole "point" of the show is to stuff ITV's X-factor on Saturday nights on ratings figures. That's why I think the run was extended this year and the additional "non dancing" nonsense was increased.. The "CIN" aspect is plugged by the BBC, but is a minor consideration.
At a guess, more than half the viewers aren't the slightest interested in CIN and obviously don't vote. If there were no connection with CIN they'd probably still get as many or more votes as the calls would be half the price.
It certainly doesn't stop people who vote for the contestants on X-factor and thus make contributions to "The Simon Cowell Pension fund."

It's just a highly entertaining show for Saturday nights.

It is so easy to get carried away with something which in the end is "just another TV programme."

Unless they just keep the extra slot they will have for something crappy? r do some sort of a Christmas special with the last 6/8 remaining couples or something? Which would basically be most of them! lol!!!!!! I don't reckon they have a clue yet myself! Surely no elimination one week would be really weird?

I've already suggested the last two weeks could be a "home and away" play off between the last three couples, with the aggregate scores counting, but I doubt that this would happen as half the audience watch just to see who goes "out" each week That's why more watch the "results programme."

I guess it will proceed "as normal" and the final week will just be some sort of "SCD Christmas Show" and the BBC will put up with the possibility of a drop in ratings.

I doubt if they do it, it will include contestants from previous years, most of ‘em would have put back the weight and forgotten the steps. So we should be saved from another appearance by “Numpty.”

well techinally they are trying to keep their programme running at the same time as the X Factor who had a double eviction one week to catch up so surely the series will just finish a week earlier than planned

My take is that they won't actually let on to just make sure everyone keeps voting but next Saturday there will be no-one leaving as a special "thank you" for their efforts from CiN the night before.

the pros are nominating their favourite dance by other celeb/pros, could they be getting the best back one week and get us to vote for our favourite? that would keep the money rolling in and keep a week where someone doesnt go, or have the finalists picked and do it the week before giving 2 weeks to vote for who wins and a week to vote for who we would like to see dance again nominated by the pros.

I agree, I am sure the BBC must have a plan, I just hope it isn't a fudge, If there is a non eviction week that they lets us know the week before so tht the wrong celeb dosen't go.

well happy days.

Wonder if there will be a xmas special after all? No news of one yet but could fill a week. (And just when SCD started this year Darren Gough was on there and mentioned a xmas special)
