Firstly I am with Voipcheap, great service, when I signed up I got an 0560 number. My mate signed up a couple of months ago and he didn't get a voip in number, looking on the net it seems that the voip in number is now getting to be quite a rare commodity - anyone got any tips on how to get a number with voipcheap?

Secondly, whilst looking into this I have come across a voip service that seems to be saying you can call your voip number from a l/l or mobile and it will then forward your call onto wherever and you will only pay a local rate.. anyone else come across this - i can't get my head around it and there doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the voipcheap site.

1. Sipgate offer a number.

2. I use Voipstunt and they offer this service as I'm sure all their sister companies do.

I use VoIPStunt, sister service to VoIPCheap, I have and 0121 VoIP-in number with VoIPStunt, VoIPCheap, SIPDiscount and an 0845 VoIP-In number with VoIPBuster.

All these sister services stopped issuing VoIP-In numbers several months ago.

If you go to the VoIPBuster.com forums there are people trading accounts with VoIP-In numbers.

1You have to pay a subscription for sipgate don't you?

2. still can't find any instructions on how you go about it - not voipstunt, voipcheap - anywhere, if you send me a link or tell me here how you do it that would be great

cheers

1) No. Sipgate were one of the first on the market, and have offered for no upfront fee and no monthly fee a local number, there is no monthly subscription fees.

2) They don't offer numbers at the moment, this was stopped a few months ago.

Cheers MM, think we are getting our wires crossed here, point 1 was about sipgate and getting incoming numbers on sipgate - so just to clarify sipgate don't offer incoming numbers then? So no real benefit registering with them as they can only offer the same service that my mate already gets with voipcheap.

Point 2 was regarding how do you go about setting up this service where you call your voip-in number from your mobile and then this redirects the mobile to another number and you only get charged local rates?

(just to clarify - I have a voip-in number, my mate hasn't )

Yes, Sipgate do indeed offer incoming numbers, no they don't have any monthly charge, you can get an incoming number for free and not spend any money with Sipgate.

I've had several Sipgate numbers for over two years and not spent any money with them, I just use them for incoming calls and making calls to 0500 / 0800 / 0808 freephone numbers.

As for your point two, I can't see how that would work, as you would be getting billed by your mobile phone company for the call to your VoIP-In number, well not at local rates.

You can set up a system where you call your VoIP-In number, and then you hang up and the system calls you back and then can ask for a PIN and then ask for a destination number and this will then call that number and connect you, so if you have free VoIP calls then you can make free calls from any landline.
