I am hoping for some help.

I used PC's for years but bought a macbook this year. I now want to get a digital camera but I need help.

I am no computer whizz and I need the camera and the software to be easy.

I used a Sony Cybershot a few years back which I liked.

I understand that a Sony doesn't use the standard camera card which makes it a bit more complicated. I have been looking at the 7 megepixel version but I am a bit confused.

Could people suggest a camera brand/model that is easy to use on a mac and that will take decent pics. I am not a big top photograher so just decent is fine. I would pay about 170 but the budget is not that important - just ease of use and decent enough quality.

If someone could recommend a decent forum that could help that would be good.

Thanks

The Mac through iPhoto will manage just about any camera you through at it.

I dont like sony camera's ... over priced. Look at perhaps olympus, richoh, or canon. Even the ultra slim casio's are good these days.

My very cheap Kodak works fine through iPhoto, didn't need to install the software, just plug and it does it all for me.

OK thanks - so software wise I am sorted.

Foe the camera, I can pretty much choose what I like.

I am sort of torn between Sony and Canon. I don't mind Sony being a bit overpriced if they are good and easy to operate but having used one before I know I was ok with it. I have used an old Canon powershot (a bit bricklike) which I found to be a bit complicated. Decent, with some features, but easy to operate - that's what I need.

Thanks for your help. Am not a silly youngster. Am 35 and am tech friendly enough that I know recommendations help. Over the years I have wasted enough dosh making bad purchases I want to get this one right.

I've used both Canons and Sonys flawlessly with iPhoto. My personal preference is the Canon IXUS range (the 60 or 750 are both great). Some of my Canon Ixus 750 photos @ http://flickr.com/photos/86459075@N00/

Those are great pics - who knew Glasgow could look so good! Thanks for that. If the camera never lies then it'll be the Canon Ixus 750 for me.

I've got the SONY DSC-W17. It takes great photos and is simple to use. The Carl Zeiss lens is what makes the SONY 's shine. It works great with my G5 iMac and iPhoto. Just plug and play.

These were taken at a recent Scissor Sisters gig with my Fuji Z2

I bought the camera as it specialised in low light and concert/evening photography. It is also excellant in daylight hours. I am very pleased with it. It works no problem with my MAC and my PC and on a girly matter it is white which matches my Ipod and my MACbook

I use a Nikon D50 (but that'll set you back around £400). You don't even need to install the software as recognised in iPhoto and Aperture.

strawberry66, those pics are awesome from a compact digital camera.

I use a Sony DSC -W15, which i love, but i can only dream of photo quality like that in low light.
