Hi,

can anyone help me? I recently got a Daewoo DUB 2850 T.V, around the back it has an SPDIF out. Will this carry a 5.1 signal? If so can anyone advise me on basic home cinema kit, new to this so nothing to earth shattering needed. I also have the same output on my dvd player, would I be better off going out of the dvd player with spdif or the TV? The sockets for both look like an RCA socket, is this known as digital coax?

Anyone know what SPDIF means exactly?

Appreciate any advice.

Sony Philips Digital Interface

It can carry a 5.1 signal but you need to have an amp with a compatible input which is common for home cinema.

No Terrestial Digital service transmits Dolby Digital 5.1. The Freeview signal can be de-coded by a suitably equiped amp to give Prologic surround sound. There is a I or II version; II is considerably superior.
This can in fact be acheived with either an analogue (stereo phono) or digital connection from source to Amp. Some people say digital in this context gives some improvement; not compared them myself.
