TomTom or Road Angel?

Does anyone know? If I bought the TomTom one - is it possible to download the speed cameras bit onto it? (even if I have to pay for it).

Otherwise there's the new Road Angel Navigation but because it's quite new I can't seem to find any reviews on it.

Any help would be much appreciated

There are two major speed camera databases for the TomTom, from TomTom themselves and the PocketGPSWorld. Both will cost you a subscription fee. Either will work with the One.

The PocketGPSWorld one is arguably the better (mind you I am biased as I've got free lifetime subscription as a contributor of camera data ) and slightly cheaper option. Plus PocketGPSWorld do a replacement for the POI warning noises file supplied by TomTom that allows you to add warnings like "GATSO 30" or whatever as you approach a camera position. Far more useful than "bing bong"

I am looking at the pro's and con's of the TomTom One aswell! A feature that I'm very intrested in is speed cameras. I came across this site with fee downloads, I have not used it but im led to believe its OK. More info can be found here.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted in how you get on.

hope i can help, i have the road angel navigator 6000 and i find it very good. the navigation is good as long as you enter a street name aswell as a postcode otherwise it will not take u strait to the door.

The speed camera bit is really good you can have it on its own without the navigation as i full screen camera detecter or when you are using the naviagtion it does kick in when it finds a speed camera. Its also very acurate aswell it suprised me how accurate it is.

Mine come with 6 months free updates, thats all the subscription is for is the updates so if u dont want to update it then it will cost nothing to run but it about £6 a month or whatever it is, is nothing anyway.

Overall i would recommend it but i have never used tom tom so i cant comment on them, the only thing i would say about it is it can be a bit slow (the software is microsoft run!) where as a Sony NAV-U50 i have used was quick.

Any questions give us a shout

Thanks for that. I will have a closer look at the options menu , I was a little flumoxed after choosing miles instead of kilometers that it was still using meters and not yards.

I'm looking at getting the Road Angel, can anyone tell me if you can set it up so the routes avoid motorways?

My wife 'doesn't do motorways' so that is a fairly crucial feature...

I know the Tom Tom One allows this but I'm liking the built in speed camera warning dufus-gizmo on the Road Angel [plus it's £30 cheaper at Halfords!]

I did a forum search on Talex and put in my comment, didn't realise it was so old.....apologies thought it was Dec 07.
They are being sold at the moment by Aldi...does that let me off the hook ?

You were never on the hook ... it was just an observation.

Merry Christmas to you.

I like things where you don't pay for the database or updates.
