does 40" tv mean screen size?
http://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/Son...d=true&drc=def
I am thinking about buying this TV for myself for Christmas. My question is, does 40" TV mean screen size or 40" from the very left of the tv to the very right |

And because of the fact that the screen width to height ratio is 16:9 and as a result of Pythagoras' Theorem a 40" screen will actually be about 35" across by about 19.7" high. That is:
35 /16 * 9 = 19.7 and 35^2 + 19.7^2 = 1613 40^2 = 1600 The square of the hypotenuse is almost the same as the sum of the squares of the other two sides. (in fact because 1613>1600) that makes the 35"/19.7" estimate just a fraction too large. Cliff |

LOL - i can see one of the exam boards coming along to use that question in a GCSE math's exam.
"Johnny is nicking a 50" plasma TV from his rich girlfriend's dad's house. He knows that 50" is the diagonal measurement, but wants to make sure that he can fit it through the door of his mate's Fiesta XR2 ... assuming that 50" = 124cm and that there is an extra 4.5 cm plastic perimeter around the screen, what is the chance of Johnny and Baz squeezing the blagged tele into the car before the cops arrive?" |

I wouldn't take too much notice of how many inches these things are advertised as. Men always exaggerate the size of their equipment. Expecially those who work at Dixons.
