Withheld Number Trouble
Hi all,
I keep getting annoying prank calls every so often from a 'withheld' number, whoever it is just rings me, doesent talk or anything, then hang up shortly after (yes it is so annoying and pointless!!) Is there anything i can do like ban my phone from recieving withheld numbers or even show the number who's ringing me, its really frustrating, i dont want to have to change my number. Withholding your number shouldnt be allowed, i think its pointless. My phone is a Sony Ericsson K800i and i'm on o2 (pay an go) there is a call barring option in one of the menu's but doesent have what im looking for. Any help would be greatfull. |

No, there's no way of blocking witheld numbers on your phone. The networks claim they "can't" do it but I'm sure they could, but I've never heard of a case where they have stopped witheld numbers from ringing someone.
If you contact your network the only thing they'll do is pass your details on to the nuisance calls beauraux (sp) and maybe offer you a new number

On some phones you can set a silent ring tone on withheld - alas I can't find such an option on my K800 (T-Mobile).
Try registering with the TPS - it could possibly be a call centre trying to flog you crap (especially if you've ported the number from Orange), that should stop most calls within a month - I get them once in a blue moon now and always reject them. |

I could be wrong, but this could be some sort of scam, where they get money if you answer the call?

Hi, Thanx for the replys
Well there isnt really any pattern to the calls, sometimes they ring me once, other times twice, i dont think they have ever rang three times or more, and sometimes they hang up soon as i awnser and others they just stay on the line for a bit but all times they say nothing. i definatly dont think its some company because the times are all over the place, sometimes its late at night and others its early in the morning, the day it started they rang at like 6am while i was in bed. I'm a bit dissapointed that there isnt anything anybody can do, i mean i have looked around, on the o2 website they say they can trace the number and hand it over to the police but i dont think i want it to go that far:s What can they do anyway? Its not as if they ring me every 5 minutes, its about every one to three days, It does annoy me but i dpont htink its enough to change my number, maybe they will get bored? |

You have a Symbian-based smartphone, there's loads of software you can download and install that does exactly this. That's the route you may want to try.

I have been having a similar problem. Depending on how many people you regularly receive calls from, you can set up an approved calls list in your call management menu. The downside is, that the list is finite, and you can only add ten numbers. Anyone not on the list, including witheld numbers, gets an unobtainable tone - although the phone will tell you it has sent a busy signal, the caller actually hears unobtainable.
Go to call management, accept calls, only from list. Then edit your list to include the ten numbers that you wish to get calls from. When someone not on the list calls, your phone will not ring, but it will light up very briefly, and tell you that it has sent a busy tone to the caller, and tells you the number that you have missed. Hope this helps, it has worked for me. |
