Nokia 6230i dead hours after buying?

I have just bought a 6230i on O2 from Argos. It started up fine, I didnt want to use the PAYG sim card so popped in my o2 contract sim card. I proceeded to setup my wap and mms settings for the o2 contracts. The wap wasnt connecting (just dialing up and then doing nothing saying "Loading...") so I turned it off and then back on.

Now, when you turn it on, it ask for the pin, displays the nokia handshaking logo/sound and then "welcome to o2" with the blue background. After this, the battery indicator appears on the right, then a second later the signal indicator on the left. The "O2" text appears for about half a second, then the phone switches off. The "MMS" indicator appears in the top left if you look quickly too. The phone then turns on for less than a second, makes a click and turns off again. This repeats 3 times. If I put a non-O2 sim card I get "phone restricted". If I put the PAYG sim card in, I get exactly the same effect as described above.

Is it worth taking it back to Argos or will they just say return to a Nokia service centre? Im obviously going to just say I put the card in and it wouldnt turn on, not that I fiddled with the settings!

Can this be fixed? If so, how?

Did you follow the proper battery charging procedure first?

The battery will have nothing to do with the problems with boot-up. If you try another SIM and it says phone restricted, but doesn't turn off, it's obviously not a battery problem.

Argos will replace the handset for you. Take it in store to the Customer Serivec / Returns desk and just show them the fault

You have obviously never owned a 6210 which were notorious for their battery-related problems including symptoms similar to the OP's.

It is not a battery problem. Certainly not related to the battery charging procedure.

Take it back.
