WAP, i-mode?

I am looking to buy a pay as you go phone, with WAP, to replace my old pre-WAP Motorola on Virgin.

All other things being equal, I would be happy staying with Virgin (my wife's phone is on Virgin also), but it's not very important.

I've seen adverts for i-mode, on O2. Looking at the O2 webite, on their cheaper PAYG models, (LG L343i, and Motorola Li), they both do not appear to support WAP, although the L6 does in other guises. Does anyone know if this is the case.

Does anyone know how i-mode compares with WAP? If using i-mode, are you limited to the existing i-mode sites, or can you look beyond them to WAP, or even full blown internet sites. As you can probably guess, all this is new to me, so any help/advice would be appreciated.

Also, I will be a low user (hence preferring PAYG), so do not want any regular (monthly) payments. The O2 site is not clear whether you can have a truly PAYG contract, as they seem to concentrate on add on packages with "free" downloads.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit: I'd particularly like feedback from any PAYG i-mode users, especially ones with either the L343i or the L6. Thanks.

Hi,

(I hope it's not regarded as bad form to bump your own thread, but just in case anyone who can help has missed the original request).

Thanks in advance for anyone who can comment on whether i-mode is/isn't better than WAP

any 3g handset will download at a comfortable rate for you, also ive never used o2's i-mode wap but it is supposed to be a little faster thatn 2.5g gprs. but get a 3g handset and your well away really.

as far as im aware all handsets now do wap or have a standard wap browser.
