Just a small bit of nastiness coming from me, but omg how scarey and not nice was Lilia's dress on saturday?? I couldn't see this "transformation" in Matt that everyone keeps going on about because i couldn't take my eyes off the neon blue bin liner that Lilia was wearing!! Its the first time this series that i have been so put off the dance by what they were wearing. Please BBC dont use that dress ever again!

I love Lilia, but I have to agree. The dress was hideous
and I hated the hairstyle and the makeup.
(this is the 1st time I've hated her complete outfit)

I didn't like it but it did look a bit The-Waltons-Do-Party-Dress-Up

Perhaps it is more American Smooth than we give credit for.

It was not the best dress she's worn that's for sure, but definitely not the worst I've seen. This year there have been some pretty strange combinations of style and colour - starting with Tess's outfits!! Certainly didn't detract from Matt's amazing performance for me.

Same here, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that dress, and her hair,...like C-Graham said earlier, she really looked like a milk maid!

I hated it.

The dress was gorgeous, minus the red belt and gloves.

I sort of liked the style, but it was definitely not a good colour combination.

You certainly are not the only one Nina I love Lilias dress on sat night I thought she looked gorgeous and nothing like a milk maid and the dress certainly looked nothing like a bin liner

Her makeup and hair were absolutely dreadful. It was the worst I have ever see Lilia look on SCD. Didn't mind the dress quite so much, although the bra top was very strange and looked like a piece of armour.

I liked the dress, but the gloves were a bit bizarre - they looked like she'd done the washing up and forgotten to take the gloves off

I liked the dress!!! I thought that the top bit looked a bit stuffed but I thought the gloves were beautiful and the skirt was perfect for the Amercian smooth

I agree it was not the best of Lilia's dresses, although I would never go far enough to say it was dreadful! I liked the gloves too and, lets face it, Lilia didn't exactly look unattractive in it!

Maybe I was watching something different to everyone else on Saturday - I thought it was lovely!

I think I was the one who used the word "dreadful" but if you read my post again , you might see that I was referring to her hair and makeup, which were the most unattractive I have ever seen on her on this programme, and not the dress. The colour combination of the dress was odd, and unfortunately the gloves didn't quite match the belt, which made it worse. And nobody said Lilia looked unattactive that I can see, but even the most ardent Lilia fan would admit that the wardrobe department did her no favours on Saturday.

Must have been watching the same as you Katie

I think I was watching the same as Olive and Katie!

Really, I am no leading expert on fashion and no, it WASN'T her best dress ever (I think that was her Paso Doble dress last year) but I really, honestly could not notice anything particuarly wrong with it. I thought the hair was a stylistic choice, to try to portray the time and place the american smooth was danced? I could be wrong though, I'm prepared to be told otherwise! I liked the colour too!

I though that dress was absolutely woeful. Quite the worst thing that I've ever seen her wear. When Matt lifted her up on his shoulders and twizzled her round, I thought he might be in grave danger of suffocating on it.
Thankfully he didn't, and they danced beautifully.

Still, I suppose everyone has an off-day in the frock department. Erin - whose dresses are usually the very last word in gorgeousness, at least according to me - had a very odd number on this week, as well

Agree about Erins dress, thought that was awful too. Out of interest, Amytigger, what do you think the time and place of the American Smooth was? It is still a current dance and competition dance in the States!

So is the rumba, but in the SCD book (yes, yes I know its not technical, I don't know any technical books) it says that Lilia has her hair up to "evoke the nighclubs of the 30's and 40's". The music they were dancing to wasn't exactly modern was it? I think it was all part of the theme!
Dancingles
15-11-2006
What theme?? I don't understand your comment about the rumba, can't really see the relevance. The American Smooth is a combination of the foxtrot, waltz, etc. and it really doesn't need a bizarre hairstyle, so it doesn't date from one era at all.

Ok, I still liked the dress but I see your point! Apologies for the SCD book ramble!
And I do agree about Erin's, it was okish but it wasn't really much of a dress, more a bikini with tassles!
