This APPEARS to be the launch of their HSPDA service. I'll be looking forward to seeing the prices for data, etc come 1st December.

I read the article as being that a new version of the N73 will be released, I could be wrong. I think I'll phone 3 to clarify.

Its just Web'N'Walk restricted to 2 handsets, neither of which have HSDPA (the SE w950i does'nt even have a digital camera!!).

There is no Skype Out (calls to normal telephone numbers).

You need a Slingbox TV adapter at £100 to use the remote TV facility.

The rest is already available on all the other networks with Vodafone and T-Mobile offering HSDPA handsets which deliver data at 5 times the speed of an N73.

Worth waiting for proper HSDPA handsets if mobile Internet and data is of interest.

Yet more mis-information from the web's favourite 3 basher.

Where exactly does it say that it is not possible to dial 'normal' numbers using Skype?

While the Xseries web site does state "Skype lets you make unlimited Skype calls to all Skype PC users and other Skype 3 mobile customers, anywhere in the world. With your X-Series mobile, you can now use Skype on the move", NOWHERE does it say you can't call Landlines. In fact, 3 have ALREADY PROVIDED a Skype service for several months now with no restrictions on the numbers dialled.

While nothing has been confirmed either way, I'd suggest that due to this existing Skype service via 3 and the fact that you log in using your Skype User Name & Password as normal, then landline calls will just be deducted out of your Skype balance charged at the Skype rate. Skype to Skype calls have always been free and 3 are just extending this with the Symbian client.

They appear to be concentrating on the free element, Skype would do the billing for everything else, it's not 3's concern. The Register seems to agree with me. Again, nothing has been confirmed as the service doesn't launch until 1st December - that's why I don't go around posting biased guesses as fact.

Oh, and the fact you actually bumped the thread by correcting the incorrect price of the Slingbox - that's just sad.

There is nothing sad about apologising and correcting information posted here. It would have been quite dishonest not to have done so!

As for the Skype facilitities.... these have been confirmed by Skype themselves....

from: http://www.newswireless.net/index.cfm/article/3034

"For example Skype founder Niklas Zennstrom told NewsWireless after the presentation that it was absolutely true that Skype was now free over the air from the new phones - but not if you were calling another phone.

"Skype Out and Skype In are things the current client doesn't support, and we hope to get them working in 2007 2008 timeframe," said Zennstrom. "But the current client, we say will 'delight' existing users, because it is so simple to use on a mobile phone. You'll not only be able to call any Skype users around the world - on PC or on X-Series - but you'll even have the little green logo to show if they're awake."

The watching analysts, however, were not overwhelmed by the presentation, with one financial worker texting his office during the show, describing the new X-Series products as "just another flat rate broadband offering with 'fair use' limitations - so not much more than a portal from the supporting cast."

So NO Skype Out to landlines then, no guesses, just the plain facts.

Hope the above clarifies the service.

Ahhh, so according to the above post it WILL WORK in the future. You neglected to mention that in your blanket "There is no Skype Out" statement.

Yes, it may be yet to come, but it didn't stop you mentioning the yet-to-arrive/activate HSPDA handset service on T-Mobile & Vodafone.

2 suppliers which I don't see falling over themselves to offer any sort of Network Approved VoIP service - T-Mobile charging you a whopping £22.50 each month if you want to consider it.
