Hi Guys,

I have just bought the above from Argos. I understood that it's a twin tuner, so I assumed I could record two separate channels at the same time, but I can't find a way to do this, and there is nothing in the instructions. Is simultaneous recording of two channels not possible with this box, and if so, can someone please explain how it's done?

Not possible, it's a 'record one, watch one' box.

The Sagem, Goodmans and Digihome PVR80 can only record one channel and watch one channel. The Sagem is better than the Goodmans and Digihome PVR80 as it can rewind live TV and shows you a perview of what you have recorded but the the Goodmans and Digihome PVR80 got a better looking 7 day EPG and loads digital text a second or two faster than the Sagem box that I have in the living room.

The Digihome is great for what it does for £99. If you were mislead by the catalogue, and want dual recording, insist on your money back and try something else. There's a Matsui in Currys - but beware that their maker is in administration. And of course, the Humax PVR-9200T - see the thread that details how to get one for £175 delivered. A bigger hard drive and a company that's far from going bust and is currently working on new, downloadable firmware.

For £99, compared to the higher price of other makes, I suppose I am happy with the Digihome, for what it does. There was nothing that said you could record on both tuners, that was just my assumption, albeit a wrong one. It's only intended as a backup for my two DVDRs, or to record something quick if I haven't got a spare disc, so I didn't want to spend a fortune anyway. It'll do for now, until the 'proper' ones come down in price, or one of my DVDRs packs in.

If you do a spot of Googling, you can find a firmware for the Digihome that turns it into a twin record box! The only downside that I can find is that it slows down the EPG loading - probably something to do with needing more memory to perform the second record

well ive just ended up with a digihome pvr 80 after my digifusion 145 bit the dust. i had that machine in the bedroom and couldnt live without it. last week it started going really slow and wiping the library (only probs ive had) so i bought a bigger power supply(as suggested in these forums) but didnt work - so i returned it today and swapped it for the sagem in argos. it didnt work! no picture came through at all (i think the box had previously been opened).

my wife took it back and returned with the digihome as they had no more sagems(and £30 refund). set it up straight away no problems - it even had channels that the other couldnt find. my house is in a dip and i dont get mux D - never did. this machine still doesnt pick it up but it gets the full range of mux2 so i now have film four+1. and an epg not reliant on 4TV.

so as of now the digihome is great. any probs i'll let you know.

Ill live with it my old box was the thompson DHD4000 box with a 40gb hdd and we never filled that

Whats the latest firmware version for the box looks like its running 3.9

I can't say I'm over impressed with the PQ on my PVR80. Strong reds and blues bloom and 'ghost' significantly. I initially thought it was the low quality scart lead, but I have changed this, and still get the same effect. Maybe the software upgrade would help, but if it can't be downloaded through the box, it's a bit of a drama installing via the PC, as it's not in the same room as the box, and I can't be arsed to diamantle everything. It's fine for emergency or non-important recordings, but I wouldn't use it for anything I wanted to keep.

In another thread, someone mentioned that you might be able to take it back as it can't record 2 things at a time (as it says on the box? or as it said in the catalogue?).

There is a thread somewhere detailing how to make it dual record, with a downloadable .bin file and instructions of how to do it courtesy of a Goodmans thread!

Yes, it's not the very best. The similarly priced Daewoo DSD-9502T's picture however is as good as / extremely close to my Humax's. Excellent, in other words. Yes, I've got all three of these PVRs in my house.

Is there a way of getting this pvr to automatically record an entire series of a program for example "Planet Earth"

Edit the timer to make it a weekly recording.

Would that record whatever is on that channel at that time or would record the program even if the time slot was shifted.

It won't cope with time changes, sadly.
