If you're using the older MD format (ie. not Hi-MD), a 3.5mm to 3.5mm lead will do. Plug one end into the line out of the MD player and the other end into the line in on your computer's sound card. A program like Audacity will record to an MP3 file.

How to: http://www.minidisc.org/charman/mdtomp3.html

The newest MZ-RH1 will of course just upload the old recordings from MD with one click!

If you mean to upload recordings, the only units that do it through USB are Hi-MD.

No probs.

Unless you have £200 to spend on the MZ-RH1 *drool* (which will upload any MD format, even the really old ones) the only way to do it would be like I suggested first, with the cables. It'll be slow if you have a lot of recordings, but it's the only other way I'm afraid.

No, that'll only upload recordings made in Hi-MD.

You can't put an old disc into a Hi-MD machine and upload it, it just doesn't work.

Like I said, the ONLY machine that is capable of doing so is the RH1.

Just found this thread, it explains how to upload and what you need: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070

If you want to continue recording on minidisc even after you've got and iPod (or whatever) then I'd recommend going Hi-MD. It makes it all REALLY simple. And besides, you get 1GB discs too.

My JE780 isn't Hi-MD, but has USB connectivity. It's not good though; I'd still go with the recommendation to run the line out of the deck into a 3.5mm inpuut on the PC, record and save as MP3.
