Too true, but what if they decide to discount the votes for that period and Claire and Brendan lose out? Either way it's not going to be fair, and they can't work out who was voting for Matt and who for Claire. If Claire goes tonight I'll be asking some serious questions about how they compensated for this error.

They couldn't do a 'no-one is going this week' IMO. If they wanted to do that, they should have done this in the week
Jimmy Tarbuck left. It wouldn't be fair to all the couples who have been voted off since then. But hey, that is just my view on it.

If there was no elimination, the votes would need to be carried over, so the problem of a wrong number would still remain.

There have been several voting shows i have seen which have skipped an elimination, but the votes have to be carried over.

Even then that wouldn't be fair though, as say Matt and Lilia do a hideous latin next week and no one feels like voting, their obvoius support for their fabulous dance this week could mean they stay as they wouldn't need many votes and vice versa scenario with other couples who would need more votes than normal to stay in if their marks were poor this week (say, Mark and Karen).

Sadly, it's a cock up and I can't' see any way around it. Someone is going to complain it's unfair, even if it's Peter and Erin who will say they may have stayed but the obvious choice for a bottom two with them got unfair votes. And so on.....

Claire and Brendan must be pleased! I noticed it was a mistake because I more or less know all the numbers anyway, especially Matt's! Very sad, I know. I hope most people who care enough to vote for Matt would ring again if they realised they'd got it wrong. So I doubt it will affect Matt, although it may benefit Claire.

They wouldn't be able to justify carrying forward the votes to next week based on that mistake, because the totals for Matt and Claire will still be wrong.

Like everyone else I can't see there is any fair solution to this. I doubt Matt and Lilla will be the lossers though as the chances of the top placed couple going out at this stage of the competition are very slim - and as someone pointed out I think most people would vote again for them.

To cancel out my accidental vote for Claire and Brendan I did feel I had to vote for all the other 6 couples once. At least it is Children in need week!

Well, i know it's controversial and never to be proved but i just can't believe that Claire and Brendan got more phone votes that Emma and Darren, which they would have had to to overtake them.

Although hand on heart i would say the same about Carol and Matthew, so maybe it is all OK

I think Emma and Darren were on a par with Claire and Brendan - may be slightly lower so could be either the Beeb's mistake that helped C & B or the public genuinely thought they were better.

I do think that the correct couple went tho......Peter is not a latin dancer but he will be missed from the show.

It did say Claire and Brendon next to the number. It wasn't their number with anyone elses name so I don't see that it would make that much difference.

Ahh i didn't know it said C&B name next to it, i just thought it said the wrong number next to M&L name....and i agree the right couple went on dancing ability.

I voted for Claire and Brendan because they didn't deserve that 6 from Len. My way to redress the balance as they shouldn't have been in the bottom three tonight.

Below is the reponse from the BBC regarding LAST week's voting error.

"Due a technical glitch on Saturday night an incorrect caption was briefly shown during the programme. During a reminder sequence at the end of the show Bruce read out the phone number to vote for Matt and Lilia. Unfortunately a problem with the computer that generates the captions lead to the caption for Claire and Brendan being displayed. In the brief link by the presenters at the end of the show there was not time to point out this error to the viewers.

It appears however, that most viewers did spot the mistake and were aware that the phone number shown - which was clearly headed 'Claire and Brendan' - was the incorrect number and the right one had been read out by Bruce. Matt and Lilia had danced just immediately prior to this reminder sequence so their phone number had been clearly and correctly displayed throughout the dance and at the end of their backstage interview with Tess just moments before the incorrect caption. Therefore most viewers who wanted to vote for them already had the correct number.

We receive highly detailed information about the telephone voting and from careful study of this information we were able to establish that there was no surge in votes for Claire and Brendan or a drop off of votes for Matt and Lilia when the incorrect caption was shown. In fact during the course of the evening the share of the votes each couple received varied very little. Although some incorrect votes may have been cast they were such an incredibly small number that they had no effect on the outcome whatsoever.

Of course any mistake in a voting system is highly regrettable and a full investigation is being undertaken to make sure the fault does not happen again. However, it is important to remember that 'Strictly Come Dancing' is a live programme that relies on complicated technology and while every effort is made to ensure mistakes do not happen, rare technical glitches are inevitable. Whilst understanding the concerns of viewers we are able to tell from the data that this fault did not change the outcome of the programme in any way."
