DerChef says

1. Matt and Lilia, Brilliant great routine, lovely lines and lots of connection

BIG BIG GAP

2. Louisa and Vincent Great routine he came up with (sneaked a wee bit of argie stylie into that one ) and cracking costumes, but have a mental block to louisa doing mature woman sultry stuff and her head and shoulders bob about all over the place.

3. Emma and Darren Looked fine to me great upper body but she made a few footwork errors will reserve judgement after she actually does some training now C.I.N. is over

4= Claire and Brendan another good routine from him, however looking at Claire and the middle aged woman who paid £17,000 to get pulled around the floor by him......well

4= Mark and Karen ummm all was there technically as Phil Jackson said but he just cant seem to act the dance. But I can never judge rumbas

6. Peter and Erin disappointed think the pressure was getting to him, lots of missed steps and one bad faux pas

7. Carol and Matt Did not like that at all , er um its a cha cha cha and she had minimal hip action , in fact he looked like the lady and that is not good. *Her strappy dress and floorspin was a high point its been a tailspin ever since

Ohhhh Yeah

On looking at the whole package....

1. Matt & Lilia...... just wait 'til he's back doing Latin, though
2. Louisa & Vincent.... but she's not consistent enough
3. Carol & Matthew.... that took real guts after the mauling she got last week
4. Claire & Brendan.... she's really upped her game
5. Peter & Erin..... few mistakes which was so uncharacteristic of his ballroom performances so far
6. Mark & Karen..... just not his dance, I'm afraid
7. Emma & Darren.... thank goodness for some more balanced judging (Bruno excepted)

I am liking this thread Der Chef and whilst I don't agree with your rankings I love the way you have written it - it feels like and honest appraisal of how you experienced the show last night with none of the baggage I don't like from some of threads - i.e. bashing or blind faith - it feels like coming home to how this forum used to look.

Anyway my opinion for what it is worth looks likes this:-

Generally I found the evening a bit of a disappointment and spent much of the programme waiting for a 'showstopper' to happen - for me that did happen when Louisa and then Matt hit the floor - I have to say it was a huge relief when I came on here and looked at the WHATM thread and found I wasn't the only thinking like that.

So ....

1) Matt and Lilia - simply beautiful

2) Louisa and Vincent - did a much better job of this than I expected and brightened up what was until that point a disappointing evening

Massive gap for me too here

3) Emma and Darren - Emma in my view is not as bad as those trying to counter the hype make out although I haven't warmed to her and have gone off Darren a bit this series having previously considered him a 'god' - I wonder if I am a little bit jealous.

4) Carol and Matt - they sneak fourth for me over Claire & Brendan because I really like the pair of them - so admittedly maybe a personality vote that one rather than a dance vote.

5) Claire and Brendan - not too sure what to say about them - when they are good they are very, very good but when they are bad it is sleazy rather than sexy for me - ballroom tonight though which was fine.

6) Mark and Karen - surprised by how disappointing this was - completely imagined the 'personal space' stuff was a set up in the training coverage and that they would wow us rather like Colin & Erin did - got that wrong!.

7) Peter and Erin - I love this man what a gent, what a celebrity and all round loveable person - but thankfully the CP days behind us (I hope) it was his time to go.

1. Matt and Lilia ... Lovely to watch
2. Claire and Brendan ... great to to see them getting some credit
3. Louisa and Vincent ... Not my favourie couple or dance, but they did very well.
4. Carol and Matthew... A nice come back from last week
5.Emma and Darren ... I think they suffered a little by going first
6.Mark and Karen ... I felt sorry for him last night after been up top for weeks. IMHO he would stand a better chance of winning with a different pro, I think he is finding Karen a bit in his face.
7. Peter. bless, it was way past his time to go.

Purely on last night:
1) Matt and Lilia- for once it's not just my bias, they were by far the best!
2) Louisa and Vincent- the surprise for me, I thought she pulled it off
3) Carol and Matthew- took guts after last week
4) Claire and Brendan- thought they were a bit undermarked actually
5) Emma and Darren- good but dull, a bit overmarked
6) Mark and Karen- not his dance at all, overmarked by Len and Bruno
7) Peter and Erin- horrible spatula hands at the start put me right off everything else.

Solely on last night's performances:

1 Matt and Lilia
2 Louisa and Vincent
3 Emma and Darren
4 Claire and Brendan
5 Carol and Matthew
6 Mark and Karen
7 Peter and Erin

The first two couples are easy to decide, but the rest were pretty evenly criticised last night.

I'm in agreement with most people here, that there was a big gap between the top two and the rest. Glad they were last, made up for what was quite a mediocre show.

I'd agree with Katie - and also Maddi about the thread - there's a dearth of general threads on here for the uncommitted-to-a-couple fan although I guess segregation does cut down on the incendiary episodes!

1) Louisa & Vincent and Matt & Lillia
As a couple I do prefere Louisa & Vincent. But honestly last night they both upped the anti and led the rest of the pack by miles Matt's lines (and hands!!) in ballroom are v.v. good. As for Louisa : we know she can pick up (difficult)choreography quickly and now can also act seriously if required. The choice of music 'Sweet dreams' turned out great as well. Lot's of drama & stylish passion.

3) Claire & Brendan; there is a journey there which developes and improves with every week. She played good character in the tango. Lots of passion in my opinion. Didn't like her tango-hold/frame though (not staccato enough). Still 'best of the rest'

4) Carol & Matthew; bounced back great from last week's butchering by the judges. Could've done with a bit more 'attack' in turns and footwork. At times she looked a bit lost besides the more dynamic Matthew. Still the dark horse though

5) Mark & Karen; did lose momentum this week a bit. Karen was clearly overdoing her part of the routine which made Mark look a bit irrelevent at times (if thats even possible ). Still great chemistry and should be back up there next week.

6) Emma & Darren; her mistakes (lack of ability ) in a routine are coming through more and more. I honestly don't believe any amount of training will sort that out (sorry). She's clearly struggling and didn't attack this 'cha cha cha' at all.
Sure she has great extensions with her arms, but that won't bring home the trophy.
'Should be worried' not about the competition out there though but about elimination.

7) Peter & Erin; although his dance was average to good in some aspects (action, footwork). He was clearly the weakest of the bunch. The latin he will simply struggle with again in future.

1. Matt & Lilia...... Dreading his Rumba.
2. Louisa & Vincent.... Loved it. ity she can't manage the acting bit.
3. Claire & Brendan.... Thought it was great
4. Peter & Erin..... Didn't like the out of hold bit - otherwise was lovely
5. Mark & Karen..... Didn't think it was cringewothy but he couldn't do the acting bit at all.
6. Emma & Darren....Given it's not the hardest dance of the night lack of training showed - I felt
7. Carol & Matthew....Didn't like it. Loved the dress though.
