Have you heard about this ?

A 'new' beatles record to be issued tomorrow, I think

I haven't heard it, but seen the ads on telly and heard something about it on the radio............

It seems that old Martin has rejigged the original tapes and mixed up lyrics from one song with music from another etc.......

What's the point ?

Old martin has been living off his few years with the Beatles for the last 40 years...........shouldn't he just 'let it be' and stop messing around with classic pop songs...........

Apparently the way it's been recorded means that it's a very different listening experience. (5.1 surround sound).

Here's a review from Amazon:

<After hearing the four preview tracks on the official website, I must say I'm pretty impressed. While my guitar gently weeps, is now a radically different song with an extra verse. Strawberry Fields' ending is now a really well constructed sound collage, incorporating snatches of melody from Penny Lane and Hello Goodbye. Lady Madonna and Octupus's garden sound excellent as well. I'm looking forward to it. >

I heard some of it on the radio and it did sound a bit of a mess to me. I think the fab four are provided work for George's son too! More money for the tax man

The radio was trying to make it a Beatles/Oasis battle.

Yes, its being released tomorrow. It's really rather good. I've heard the entire album a few times, and its carefully done and preserves the Beatles reputation nicely, and should open them up to even more fans.

The point? Well listen to the new album and judge for yourself, there are some brilliant re-works. "Tomorrow Never Knows" is sublime, and the other tracks have been heavily lifted and remastered.

As Macca said in an interview about the new album "Love"....stuff like that are in museums and gallerys getting older and more fragile looking with time....yet the Beatles stuff sounds more modern as they re-master and lift all their tracks.

This is protecting their legacy, Martin and Co know what they are doing.

Some of their masterpieces have actually been improved, believe it or not. You listen to your copy of "I am the Walrus" from Magical Mystery Tour.....then listen to the update "Love" version.....awesome.

Cant wait.. ' Tomorrow Never Knows' is an absolute masterpiece as it stands . They have used the unique beat for extracts of 'Within You Without You' apparently. Cannot see any refences to 'Hey Bulldog' unfortunately .. have to get it now santa.s too far away !

They use a bit of Hey Bulldog on the Lady Madonna track.

Oh, and "Tomorrow Never Knows" is awesome using George Harrisons vocal from Within You, Without You, over all those tapeloops and Ringo drumbeat!! It works very well!!

Some bits of the album are a bit iffy....like the Blackbird intro to Yesterday, but most of it is just great.

I wasn't that convinced when I heard they were doing this, but having listened to some of it already, it sounds great. Got my copy on pre-order. Was expecting Play to have maybe already sent it and have received it either yesterday or tomorrow as they sometimes do but sadly not

I've noticed that Play are delaying sending them, I used to look forward to getting my stuff on Saturdays

I was very sceptical of this, and then I managed to get hold of a nice shining new copy today (only the CD sadly, not the 5.1 version yet).

Have to say.. WOW! This is awesome, everything is done very well, and it sounds fresher than ever. Been listening to it all day, and finding it more and more enjoyable as I listen.

Out to buy the DVD tomorrow now (a valid addition to my DVD-Audio collection, and there is a DVD-Video side too in DTS for people without DVD-A capabilities). Shame there's no video footage on the DVD-A/V, would have been an excellent addition!

Hi Mark, glad you enjoyed it. I heard it played on Virgin Radio in its entirety, but I can't wait tomorrow to hear it in its full CD quality glory!!

I am looking to get the CD+DVD-A package.....which includes the two discs, is this what you are talking about?

I loved the Tomorrow Never Knows remix so much, i got into listening to the original "Within You, Without You" a bit today.....i never really appreciated it till now! It's a great song, and even better with the superb TNK drum part!

People will be negative and say its the Beatles exploiting, but its a good package, and you compare how many Elvis greatest hits packages compared to the Beatles! Elvis brings out dozens every year, The Beatles have only ever done 3!!

Yeah, it's available on a double sided DVD... Side 1 is the hi-Res 5.1 DVD-Audio version (only works on dedicated DVD-Audio players) and side 2 is the DVD-Video Version which has the 5.1 in Dolby Digital and DTS. I'm getting it for side 1 Hi-Res version. Sadly none of the versions have any video on them as a bonus.

Then again... as a bonus auraly we get an extra 3 mins audio on the album on the DVD versions! Well worth the price of admission.

The CD sounds awesome, and the packaging is great! You're gonna love it all BeatleGod!

Oh yesss! Only let down is that I haven't got round to getting a 5:1 surround sound system for my DVD player yet, so the DVD bit will be strictly for when visiting my girlfriends place who fortunately DOES have one!!

I wonder whats in the extra 3 minutes for the DVD?

I'm getting far more excited about this product from the Beatles than "Let it Be....Naked". Whilst Let It Be was lovely sound quality, and a superb clean version of "Don't Let Me Down", one of their best ever tracks...."Love" just seems to be generating a lot more excitement.

Oddly enough, I think its a little bit more than that. Plenty of remastering went on. Compare "I am the Walrus" off Magical Mystery Tour Album to the version off "Love"....that would have taken time to do and a lot of expensive equipment.

This is MUCH MORE than a mash-up. All the songs have been totally remastered and it's not just a matter of making a mash, it's actually remixing to get a new sound, something that sounds as good now as when it did all that time ago.

As for "Let It be Naked". I was not too impressed by that release, so this is a welcome change. Something totally different, something for people today (and attracting new fans) and something for us old bu**ers.

BeatleGod, you'll enjoy the whole experience on CD/DVD. The extra 3 mins should be interesting, as its in addition to the original CD, so I guess they extended a few tracks.

I am like a child on Christmas eve!!

Hopefully they will extend the Tomorrow Never Knows track. I thouught "Blackbird/Yesterday" was a bit of a pointless combination though....the albums only weak point, and even thats not too bad!!

Wonder how many tracks the Martins re-mixed for consideration for this album....makes me think that we could have a few other tracks that could surface at some stage later!!

Had to smile at the 'old Martin' insult. Without him and his considerable knowledge, the Beatles - brilliant though they were before working with Sir George - would definitely not have sounded the way we know them now. He's not known as the 'Fifth Beatle' for nothing. He well deserved his recent award, great respect to him and I can't wait to hear the new release.

Heard the album in its entirety on Big L yesterday.
I wasn't that impressed to be honest.

It's really well done, and remastered to great effect. George and Giles Martin haven't spoilt anything, and many of the songs are virtually untouched other than their remastering.

It's a far far better package than "1", in that its got their best songs on it, rather than just their hits.

I'm happy with my Mystery Tour Walrus...time means Beatle Songs attain classic status, but do not age. They're not fragile...my Revolver CD sounds like 5th August 66.

They really don't......the CD quality of the studio albums was awful. It sounded better listening to the original vinyl. They were really badly transferred.

The Anthologies, 1, Let It Be....Naked, Yellow Submarine and now Love sound superb.

"I am the Walrus" has at last been given the extra punch it deserves, and NOW sounds as good as it was in 1967 in the studio.

EDIT: And i am discussing sound quality rather than song quality. They really have left "I am the Walrus" alone in the song department and rightfully so....but it sounds an awful lot cleaner and crisper.
