I'm using VOIP with www.voip.co.uk £19.99/year then no charge for off peak calls up to an hour and 2p per call for up to an hour peak rate. This works out cheaper for me.

I only use 2 quid a quarter in calls so 5 quid a month is a huge rise

I rarely call landlines.

I'm with Talktalk and get free weekend calls and free calls at anytime to my parents who use TT too. Wouldn't touch the broadband with a barge pole though.

We don't all need the childish 'comfort blanket' of a mobile phone.

Agree with the op's main point though, it's a good deal at £5 a month.

Most calls that I make are in the evenings & weekends, so paying BT Together Option 2 for £3.95 per month is cheaper than paying £5 per month for anytime calls. But, if my lifestyle was to change, and would call more often in the daytime weekdays, then I would purchase Sky Talk rather than BT Together Option 3 (at 9.95 per month)

My parents are on Sky Talk, because they are at home more often. The only problem is that I have discovered, that barring 09 numbers cannot be done via Sky Talk (includes barring all numbers except UK landlines) and Sky Talk T&Cs state that no barrings are allowed on your BT line rental payment (ie. paying BT to bar calls)

We only keep the BT line active for our broadband connection (and before anyone asks its a provider using BT infrastructure or nothing round here. - the nearest LLU exchange is 30 miles away!)

Primus. No £ per month for all of the above(except the unlimited bit.)

90 mins is ample.

Which Primus package is that then? I have had a look at their website and all packages you pay for calls.

You don't get anything for nothing in this life. there'll be a catch / price rise somewhere down the line in the future

Got everything with BT. I have to also keep BT Broadband till May next year even though I got BT Broadband in Feb for I tane a new 12 month contract when I upgraded to the BT Broadband max service in May. I get free evening and weekend landline calls with BT Broadband Talk as part of the broadband fee and have done since August. I pay £10 almost every two weeks towords my BT bill with the BT payment card. My bill is only high due to the BT service charges for it lucky if I make £15 or £16 worth of calls in 3 months at times. I also on the BT friends and family and that can save us £2-£3 every 3 months duning the weekday. Free evening and weekend landline calls up to an hour per call using BT Broaband Talk now also save us a little also. I have barred 09 numbers on the BT broadband Talk service.

Seems like you're unnecessarily paying BT £3.95 each month to me.

You'd be better off using Primus Saver Option 2 - free evening & weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers for no monthly subscription.

And using 18185 for you occasional weekday daytime UK 01/02 calls and for calls to 077, 078, 079, 0845 and 0870 numbers would keep all your call charges to a minimum too.

True, but as you correctly state that is only evening & weekend, not "anytime day or night" that capt hangover boasts of having.

Also, those people who use virgin as their broadband provider might want to consider the Virgin Talk bundle instead - free evening & weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers (up to 60 mins per call) and £5 off your internet costs (only £3 off on Plan 2)

(a) Because I do not have Sky and have no plans to pay their huge fees

(b) Because for £5.00 per month I could make 125 calls during the weekday and as many as I like at weeknights and weekends

I don't make anywhere near that amount of calls. In fact I've not paid for any calls for months (apart from the odd couple to BT to keep my 'free' caller display) thanks to Finarea deciding it would currently cost them more to bill me than they would collect

1. I don't have Sky
2. I don't use the landline for voice calls (it's cheaper to call mobiles from mobiles)
3. It's only there for Broadband.

Only LLU operator is Be, can't work out if I still need to pay BT line rental with them though.

Yes, apologies... Had a few that night and didn't read the question properly.

A guy in town this afternoon was trying to sell Sky and Sky talk but it was like not many were interested.

Skype... buy £10 worth of credit, call UK landlines free for 6 months 24 hrs a day and no restriction.

Least I can still use the credit for overseas calls I make.

Sky Talk isn't as cheap as it seems.
