Bruno and his "marks"
Tango Trish
19-11-2006
I apologise if this has been mentioned already in another thread - but here I am watching the re-run of last nights show (I know an addict - need my double fix each weekend).
My query is how on earth can Bruno say that Emma and Darrens dance was up there with the routines by Louisa and Vincent and Matt and Lilia.
Len said Matt and lilia did the best dance of the series so far - yet Bruno gave it the same mark as Emma and Darren when the rest of the judges clearly had taken their "Emma" coloured specs off and marked her and Darren accordingly hmmm

A 9 for Emma was utterly rediculous. Her footwork was terrible. Same mark from him as Matt? I don't think so.

You are 100% right Trish, all our family and friends
said the same today. I don't know what planet Bruno is on.
It's an insult to the performances of the likes of Matt who
after all has to lead the dance as well.
No wonder Brendan lost it recently!!!!

Bruno needs to take a reality pill!

.. and remove his rose coloured glasses.....

... and take a crash course in BALLROOM dancing so he understands what he's looking at!

I tend to mentally switch off when Bruno speaks. He shows absolutely no consistency with his scores or his comments.

The other judges at least back up their statements with justifications, but he just spouts false platitudes.

I like Bruno, I think he's ammusing.

But even I can see that he's marking totally out of bias rather than through seeing the quality of the dance in front of him.

I'm quite surprised it's gone so long without anyone commenting and targetting his marking - he's worse than Craig (who, coincidentally, I actually think is generally harsh-but-fair) and Arlene (fair until she's presented with Mark*)..!

* = Up until this week. Because this week's mark was fair (and although it was lower than usual, it will probably help Mark more in the long run, as he's not losing fans out of protest against Arlene.)

(Sorry, I edited because I re-read and realised I was lacking in clarity. )

Arlene and Craig are without any doubt the most accurate and fairest scores.

Thank you for starting this thread, as I noticed in tonight's repeat that Bruno gave several couples a 9, so therefore he is undecided who to place 1st.

It's a competition - he's a Judge. It's up to him to distinguish which is the best performance, or else don't complain when the public vote someone off who he disagrees with, like Zoe in last year's Final.

I could accept a Judge having a tough time deciding with two dances last night - Louisa and Matt's - so giving both a 9, but not 3 when that 3rd was Emma's. It was not on a par with the other 2, and that should be pretty clear for a Judge.

Accepted it's all a bit of fun, but I'm sure the Pros are taking it seriously, and so are Dance Fans.

I don't want to be accused of bunton bashing far from it, but i feel Bruno has another agends here in that he is a choreographer of pop videos and he possibly sees Emma as a potential punter. Also he is so hyper and totally unrealistic in the comments and his marking. There seem to be two sets of judges, Craig and Arlene v Len and Bruno. Last night Bruno was shown up when he disagreed with 3 other judges and told them to get real. Look to yuorself Bruno, you are a joke. This is a serious competition, everyone works so hard and should be fairly judged and not used as material for the Bruno one man show of exaggeration.

Well, I've been a fan of Emma since their first dance, and I think the Cha Cha was still pretty good though not brilliant. I certainly wouldn't say her footwork was "terrible". Anyway, personally I would probably have given them an 8, and a 9 probably is a bit high but then the judges were marking them first so didn't have a standard by which to measure them. Also, we have four judges so the marks balance out and in the end the right results came out. The dancers were still ranked in what I think was the correct order, or at least pretty damn close, and Peter - the undoubted weakest dancer - went. So was Bruno's 9 really that much of a problem?

Not so much a problem as a little "unfair" on the obviously BETTER dances of the night! - The Judges (apart from Bruno) were in obvious unison re Emmas dance - and for the record so Buntons Bunnies don't have a go I thought she WAS better than last week - yes she went first so they need a bench mark, but pleeease a nine no way was her dance as good as or for that matter anywhere near as good as Matt and Lilia or Louisa and Vincente.

Totally agree. I quite like Emma, but this blatamt favouratism by Bruno caused her to be in the bottom two imo. He really isn't doing her any favours, in fact the opposite.

No, he hasn't and sadly because the judges now know that she has the potential to slide down the leader board there could be more inflation of marks for her, which lead to the public voting less ... and so on. It's a situation of their own making, really - if people are ranked on the leader board according to the dance they do that week - which, yes could mean that some weeks Emma will be at the top and Matt towards the bottom but conversely some weeks it could be the other way round rather than where the judges want them to be it could be avoided!

I think next week Bruno will have worked himself up into a veritable frenzy of gesticulation, pouting, hyperbole and alliteration. Should be fun to watch, if nothing else!

Bruno is usually the most biased of the judges and the one most likely to be influenced by his personal favourites rather than actual technical ability. Arlene and Craig seem to give the more accurate scores.

Might be an arguement for dropping the highest and lowest marks (that way as well, they might be encouraged to actually use tallhe marks on the paddles!)
