I am so glad someone else has noticed this!! Mark's wife looked distinctly unimpressed on saturday (barely clapping, not smiling etc). Me and my OH have long suspected that he feels uncomfortable doing the more sexually charged dances because of pressure from home. It was almost as if she'd banned him from giving the dance the passion it needed. It is sad - he's a great dancer and it is possible to have chemistry with your partner without wanting to jump into bed with them. If he doesn't win it may be his wife's jealousy thats to blame.
I don't think it's as far as her banning him from from giving passion to the dance, he just may respect his wife too much to be entirely comfortable with being that intimate with someone he only met a couple of weeks ago.

Mark can't be that much of a prude to be embarrassed about dancing the Rumba or his wife that pissed off about it, unless they both know, maybe only subliminally that there is some real sexual tension between him and Karen…….

I agree dippydozy! I also think that Karen is very cloying...he obviously is shy and needs his space, I still think he would have been better with the likes of Erin, she always seem to teach her celebs without any of the silly romantic connection been mentioned. I will eat my hat if Mark has got any feelings for Karen other than "get out of my face"

I don't know whether it's chemistry or not, but I like the way Brendan and Claire touch and reassure each other. They seem comfortable with each other, and I find them quite sensual.

Yes she is good at play acting!
I was convinced last year she was in love with James the Chief and although there were lots of hand holding and adoring looks it was just to get more votes. 
I was told on the Forum she had an Italian boyfriend (still has) the whole time she was supposed to be in love with James!! I also read a recent interview with Camilla and she said that she had never had a relationship with James and she was in love with her (rich) Italian!! Also no going back to Brendan cos of the above!!

I have to admit
I was so involved in their relationship I was completely gone too, I am so romantic and they made such a lovely couple and it was all LIES to get more votes. I was furious (I KNOW I must get a life!! 
) but I believe it!! He is gorgeous and so shy I thought all I read (and lets me honest here, she gave a wonderful performance of being love struck in her interviews on ITT)and she was living with her Italian boyfriend at the time!! I really disliked the playacting and quite honestly would not believe it if any of the dancing partners said they were involved after that experience with James and Camilla!! What I couldn't really understand was Mark's sudden discomfort of Karen being in his personal space - it's not as if they haven't been dancing closely already.
I honestly don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that his wife has got a bit of the green eyed monster syndrome. I know I'd find it hard watching my boyfriend getting that close to another woman, even if it was 'just dancing' (as Len says).

Mark has always had interest from the ladies. I remember being at a test match and there was a lot of Mark-groupies.
I'd managed to get his autograph (purely from being in the right place at the right time I must point out - no stalking involved!) and was almost torn limb from limb.
Edited to say, there must be an awful lot of trust involved in being married to an international sportsman from any sport, but cricket in particular when (as they are now) the team are in another part of the world for what can be 3-4 months' at a time - and partners are only allowed to come out to visit at certain times such as Christmas. Even when playing in the domestic league, they can be in different parts of the country playing the 4 and 5 day matches.

I saw the shot of Mark's wife and she didn't look to happy and this was mid dance, however the reason she looked a bit stony faced could have been unrelated.
I think Mark and Karen have become good friends and have probably a closer relationship that any of the other contestants (or so it seems to me) and because of this people will speculate.
However they are both married with children, so I am hoping that is all it is.

I don't think his wife is to blame. I think it was just a dance Mark didn't perform very well - probably because he can't act very well. In the other dances, he just had to look like he was enjoying himself, which isn't so much acting as just showing how you're feeling. When he had to pretend to be feeling sexual tension/love/whatever with Karen, he simply did not have enough performance ability to pull it off. Just a weak dance on Mark's part, nothing more.

I have said before because Karen is as she is no one else could get Mark to perform that way; she has worked wonders with him!

Yes, very true. It can't be easy being separated from your husband for long periods and the wives of most sportsmen seem to get a bit of rough ride in the press a lot of the time.

I just took that to mean because he was training and competing again. Since he was a boy he would have been training and playing footy - and then retired as a still young man - but with all that vast period of time to fill - and only the kids to play death snakes and ladders with!
So now Mark's wife is to blame. Please... I think the salsa was the sexiest dance they did up til now and she was very excited about that, cheering him on and shouting from the audience when Mark asked if they please could start again. The cha cha cha was also very cheeky. If she was that jealous she would have stopped him after the first week . I also read somewhere that she is used to Mark getting attention from the ladies. From what I've seen and read I think she is a very nice and down to earth lady. She did look not very happy last Saturday, but I would too if my husband got hard criticism from the judges and didn't do as well as everyone expected!
I think the problem (well, if there is a real problem) might be Karen. I like her, but she might be a bit 'too much' for someone who is naturally shy. I am quite shy and quiet and can get overwhelmed by people who talk a lot or have the ability to draw attention to themselves. I don't mean that in a negative way, because I like Karen and her passion for dancing and I certainly know she likes Mark and his talent and wants to make him feel good. But I tend to withdraw myself in the company of more extravert people and I recognize that a bit in Mark.

I've thought that Karen has a bit of a thing about Mark since the first moment she clapped eyes on him, "He's mine!!!" but it may be just the 'showbiz/dance-type' OTT behaviour. Maybe a bit much for a quieter person to cope with though.
If there was tension during the Rumba, it was more than likely because of his wife and children in the audience. I don't mean that she got huffy over what he was doing, but he would definitely have felt more self conscious about the dance, which will have shown in his performance.

Thanks for that, what you describe is exactly the impression I got about how Mark felt - bopping around the floor in a fairly fast dance, to me, is a hell of a lot different to a very slow 'do I really have to put my hands there
' type of dance, especially in front of your partner, however unfased they may/or may not, have been about it.

Thought he mentioned something in the training footage on ITT that he was glad his daughter(s) wouldn't be there? I'm not sure... If his wife being in the audience embarressed him they could have decided that she would stay at home. But they didn't, so I guess her being there and supporting him meant more to him. But hey, it's just guessing, now I almost feel embarressed for talking about them like I know them
You mean Camilla and James Martin were never a couple????? I thought their dancing partnership led to something a bit more

I thought that! Erin in particular seemed totally taken with Peter. Bless. He's married though isn't he? And Erin is with her long-term boyfriend too.

Well to be fair, two out of three of Erin's partners so far have been gay, so.....
I think there is genuine friendship and chemistry between Mark and Karen, you can't fake that. I have no idea what happened with the Rhumba, as someone else said, it's so odd that despite dancing as close as you can possibly get to another person for weeks, he suddenly felt his personal space was an issue. It does make you wonder.
