I have started to read this forum and find it amusing that some posters seem to be taking SCD seriously. Its a light enertainment TV program which raises money for charity. Everyone gets paid to entertain us on the show and no doubt the results presentation is adapted to maximise suspense. But in the end its a Saturday night entertainment program and as such not to be taken seriously.

true but it is so easy to get obsessed with SCD and when you do all ratiuonal thoguths of it only being for fun fly out of your head and are repalced with thoughts about conspiracy theories and agendas.

There's nothing wrong with taking it seriously. It made me want to start dancing, and now I have I adooooooooooore it. I love watching all the professionals, they're amazing at what they do. I admire their hard work and dedication so much. It may just be a light entertainment program for the majority but for everyone involved it's their lives for 4 months a year!

As I believe someone said about football-some people think it's a matter of life or death but for some of us it's more serious than that.

I have absolutely no problem in putting my hands up and saying I'm a sad sad fool is completely and utterly obsessed In a very unhealthy manner!

There are lots of "little clubs" on this forum.

Now on most boards these would be called "topics."
Some get very upset if you post even a mildy critical message on these threads, which "sully" one of "glowing praise."

The most fervently devoted, are those enamoured of a "past it" backing singer of limited range, desperately trying to revive a flagging career by any means possible.
Calling someone "baby" when they're pushin' thirty seems a little strange.
As has been said this is just a very entertaining programme and the "competition" element is really insignificant in the end and shouldn't be taken at all seriously.
But a lot of people enjoy posting messages on this forum and they should not be discouraged from doing so. I just wish some of 'em didn't take remarks made about a "celebrity" so personally, when that person wouldn't know 'em from Adam.

i think being obsessed with it only makes the experience more enjoyable. although i do have to admit my obsession is often incredibly unhealthy as it seems to be the only thing i ever talk about and during the results yesterday i was so unbelievably nervous that my heart was beating uncontrollably even though i did not really care about either of the bottom two.

in my opinion the more obssessed the better.

Yes you're right it is a light entertainment show, but at the same time this is a forum! If people didn't bother to have and express their opinions and if their were no debates about possible goings on then this place would quickly become pretty boring!

On the other hand, I agree that many (myself firmly included) probably take it all a bit too seriously - but if you love the show it's quite hard not to get quite involved! I agree with above post, it makes it all so much more enjoyable (and quite often frustrating!)

No, already turned 30. She said so on Graham Norton's show a few weeks ago.

Being obsessed for the duration of the show is fine...... it's the fans who can't let go from previous series that I don't get..... at all

I'm still obsessed when the show's not on! But I care a lot about the pros, not the celebrities!

I do believe many suffer from "withdrawal symptoms" when the run finishes each year.
Lately the BBC have been supplyin' a form of "Methadone" in the shape of "Strictly Dance Fever" immediately after SCD, but "addicts" tell me; "It's not the same."

This is my first year of being seriously obsessed, so I am yet to discover what the withdrawal symptoms will be like.

I've been reading for a long time but only registered with the forum after the end of the series. It was because I was going through withdrawl symptoms of not seeing SCD. My children tried to help me by buying the SCD book for me for Christmas. It was just OK. But I needed to see the dancing, the music, the customes. This withdrawl was unbelievable. I had a routine every saturday night and it was just over. This year I've taped all the sat. shows to withdraw a bit better. I saw Jill & Darren's dance on ITT and it brought back that same feeling of excitement and tears because it was so good.

Erinfan you never seem very serious to me when we're dressed in our Team Cutler outfits drinking at Bar Cutler.

ah yes but I'm seriously addicted to Team Cutler, which is why I admitted to being serious! I meant serious as in dedicated I suppose rather than anything else and can definitely take the show with a pinch of salt and so perhaps I used the wrong word. Addicted would be much better, after all, I'm definitely a regular in Bar Cutler!!

Totally agree. Though I find myself obsessed with it and it's not very healthy.

No, I can't agree that SCD is just a light entertainment programme. It's a world of its own, reflecting the beauty, tragedy and passion of life.

Can't it apply to both? Besides, football doesn't have the frocks!
