Hi, sorry i cant remember what those 3 leads are called.

Anyway..is there a lead which can do scart to these 3? Lemme explain...

The xbox advanced scart only outputs in scart, but i think i *might* need it to go into the 3 leads so i can plug it into the receiver etc. So i need the plug the xbox scart lead into something which then outputs in the 3 lead stuff. Any ideas? Cheers.

That probably doesnt make much sense

Is this what you're after? You can get these from Currys, Dixons, Comet, etc. aswell. Make sure it's scart -> phono (or two way) and not phono -> scart. Otherwise it's designed for throwing signals at a scart connection, rather than taking them from scart.

Hmm, not quite sure what you mean.

The leads you are talking about are two phono leads and a video one (yellow). The trouble is if you connect using these phono/audio leads your picture will be in composite video which is inferior to RGB which I believe you are viewing in.

I only have the sound connected to my kit (because that is all it takes) but have everything linked to the tv via scart leads then phono leads coming from the tv to the amp. This way I get Dolby Prologic sound from the video, tv,Sky and PS2 via one button on the amp and use another button for the DVD input for 5.1 and dts sound.

I have not seen the back of the amp you are talking about so I am only presuming the connection of equipment via scart leads to the back will mean automatic selection of the input by the amp, if you follow that. The best thing is to have a good read through your manual and have a play around with the connections. I read in your other post that you can connect everything via the amp and then transmit a RGB picture from the amp to the tv which sounds excellent.

It may be possible for you to daisy chain your X-box through a spare scart if you have one. I have my PS2 daisy chained through the dvd player to the tv both transmitting in RGB.

One of the lads in the gaming forum who has a x-box will probably be able to tell you if you can get a scart to phono/video leads for the x-box. I think his name is Craig but I cannot remember for sure. I know he was in a discussion of which console was the best and thought the x-box won hands down, he knows a lot about it so run a search. If I get time I will see if I can find the thread.

The Joytech lead (12.99 HMV) comes with ALL the leads you'll ever need....

RGB SCART ( an ABSOLUTE MUST)
S-Video
Optical Audio
L & R Phono.

I use one...highly recommended.

hi, cheers everyone.

Basically wicket im not sure if it does output in rgb, what i meant was that all the stuff i have got (dvd player, xbox and digital cable box) all output in RGB, but i only have one RGB scart on the TV.

Any way round this? Or will one just have to go?

Currently:

dvd player -> cable box -> rgb scart
xbox -> normal scart.

You'll need a SCART switch box.

Argos do them for 9.75 and they RGB compitable.

I use a similar one and have my DVD player, X Box and STB conected to it.

It wouldn't hurt to see if RGB signals are outputted from your amp before buying a scart block.

I had a look in Dixons today they sold a X-box connector with phono leads and a S-video lead. S-video gives you practically the same quality as RGB but your tv would need a S-video connector. It is a small round black socket with about five sockets.

I bought a scart extender from Comet for about £15 and it was rubbish. There was a lot of interference from the other channels in the end I just daisy chained the equipment.

ok cool

Yea i'll try putting it through the amp at some point i just need to find a spare phono lead somewhere.

Also, i heard that the unofficial xbox scart leads dont produce as good a quality as the official ones, true or rubbish? Cos i spent £20 on the official one from dixons (i dont usually buy from dixons but i didnt have a choice) i still have the receipt but the packaging is kinda knackered (the horrible plastic you have to rip to shreds before you can get anywhere near the contents).

I do have an s-video on the tv but its at the front and i think other people in this house will go ape if its there (naming no names lol).

Okay let me know how you get on. The lead in Dixons was £9.99 but made by MadCatz. I don't know much about the x-box but I know with the PS2 the offical products usually prove to be the best.

The cabling at the front wouldn't be so bad if you tidied it away when not using the X-box. The only thing I would get bothered about is the pins and connections getting damaged when constantly connecting and disconnecting the equipment.

You won't get SCARTS on Amps, Component at best

S-video gives you practically the same quality as RGB
Nonsense, it much depends on yoyr equipment, but on the whole RGB is better

Of coures it's rubbish, because you bought the wrong item, an extender is neither use nor ornamnet. The signal will degrade beacuse it is being split into two or more, where as a SCART switch box is different, you select ONE signal, it is not split.

Daisy chain IS a better option if your equipment can handle it.

Exulus, don'y confuse a scart splitter with a scart switch box.
They are NOT the same. I believe Argos do both.

Not to get into the s-video vs RGB argument (they're both pretty good), but apart from the figuring out which devices you can run using s-video or RGB, it's worth also bearing in mind that many devices (some consoles and DVD players, and ALL SKY boxes) won't do widescreen switching on the video signal. I live with the leads hanging out of the front of the TV (when will they learn about design?) but it can be a pain to have to guess the aspect and manually switch for PS2 and DVDs. If you can do it with a big RGB scart switcher it might be your best bet...

Exulus had given me the impression from one of his other posts that he could connect his equipment via scarts. I was surprised that the amp had scart connectors, my old one used to have them but I thought they had stopped connecting like this.

I always use RGB signals but in Exulus's case S-video for his x-box might solve some of his connecting problems with the amount of equipment he has to connect. It has to be better than the composite video connection he was trying to do.

Yes the scart connector is rubbish but it was still rubbish when I had only one item of equipment plugged into and was not splitting the signal in any way. I wanted Exulus to realise this before he possibly bought one. From a previous thread scart switchers were discussed but they were a lot more expensive than £9.99 more like £50 + if my memory serves me right which may be too expensive for Exulus after just getting his new home cinema kit.

As ever always appreciate your advice Kevo.

The Expensive answer is to feed all the STBs into the amp via SVideo come out of the amp via SVideo into a Iscan Pro (which will then give you RGB + Progressive Scan on all material including PAL) Out of the Iscan pro into a projector via a monitor or component cable.

Total cost £2500 upwards

Exulus, if you can't daisy chain then the cheaper and more practical option is to use a SCART switch box (9.75 Argos).
It's the same one I use (B-Tech BT21).

The signal is NOT degraded, it allows for RGB, S-Video and composite SCART (3 inputs).
It also has a useful audio phono tap out to an amp.
It allows for auto WS switching.

You can even record from 2 of the scarts through to input 1.

The only problem is....you have to get up and manually switch devices...now and again.

They do a more expensive remote controlled switch box (Quattro) around £60-90 but this does not allow for ws switching which I would find more of a pain than maually switching.

Although I have literally just heard (from B-Tech) that their new Quintro switch box DOES allow for WS switching and has 5 inputs...at a price....99.99

ooh interesting. Theres so many options its quite frightening! What i'll try and do later on is give you info on which devices have certain connecters etc, its quite a headscratcher planning it all out!

I think the £10 switch box looks good though

ok heres my current setup about to be described in the best way i can .

Heres a photo taken from the book, but ignore the "multi ch in" bit because thats for a different model:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/guybrush2001/connect.jpg

Anyway.

Video:

dvd player ----scart----- cable box ------scart------rgb scart on back of tv.

xbox -----scart----- normal scart port.

arial-----rf lead------cable box------rf lead-----vcr-----rf lead------tv (something like that..not that it matters really).

Audio:

Xbox----optical------optical in.

dvd-----coaxial------coaxial in.

cable box-----2 phono audio leads-----video 1 audio in.

vcr-----mono phono lead----md/tape audio in.

i think thats it.....(the vcr is very old!!).I think scart switch box looks like the way to go to be honest

From what you have shown me it is possible to use the amp for all your devices if they have yellow, red and white phono outputs. However, personally I would stick with how you have got it set up roughly.

Has you tv got phono outputs? If so I would connect these to the video one inputs on your amp. Thereby getting prologic sound for your tv and digibox. However, if you are using Sky for all your viewing leave it set up directly by phono leads from the Sky box.

However, if you were able to connect the X-box to scart 1 RGB you would achieve a better picture. Kevo has recommended the scart switcher box in Argos for £9.75 which seems a bargain and it can apparently deal with RGB signals and has no interference so it may well be what you are looking for. I just was not at all impressed with the one I bought from Comet so I got a bit put off my them.
