I've purchased 7 items (DVD players, amps, etc.) from my local Richer Sounds over the last 8 years or so.
Of those 7 items 5 have had to be returned for repair or replacement. Each item is always a good brand name.
Although the staff are always very friendly and knowledgeable I do have to wonder about their stock.
Personally I am a bit dubious about making any more purchases from them.
Has anyone else found this or is it just me?

Ditto again. Always had good service, good prices and never had anything fail on me (TV, DVD player, Amp). Just bad luck I guess?? Always make sure the box is selaed though just in case your getting dodgy swapped out stock.

Never had any real problems either.

It's to your advantage though if you research properly what you want to buy, and are clear on this, rather than let them sell you Cambridge Audio etc (there own brands)

Some of RS stock is non-pristine (grade A returns etc) although all this should be clearly labeled and dold as such. No chnace it was some of this you bought (that's a really unhealthy return rate!)?

I picked up a refurb Pure DAB radio from them, good as new and no issues at all.

Never had any problem with them, although like mincepie said, know what you want to buy before you go and don't let the staff talk you into a sale.

never had a problem - and staff could not be more helpful at the Nottingham store

some real bargains of late

Panny Component board £9.99

LG 'plasma' speakers £9.99

and if you balls up and buy the wrong thing a refund is freely given

i only use them for bits and pieces - usually for friends to set them up - but i get better service from them on a £9.99 purchase than i do on a £1500 plus purchase from SOME snotty hi fi dealers who thing they are doing you a favour by allowing you into their shop

depends on what you mean by a good brand name,

phillips dvd recorders for instance - people have returned one or two of those to richer sounds over the years, but hardly their fault

Never had any problems with anything I've bought from richer - other than the "super care" warranty (they give you a refund if you dont use it, but I lost the receipt ).

Always a bargain / haggle to be had in the ex display section too.

We used to buy all our hifi stuff from them but I went off them after I bought a separates tape deck. I wanted to spend £100 (my budget) but the assistant just sneered at the ones I was interested in (a very good Aiwa model as a matter of fact - still going strong 12 years on!) and wanted to sell me a £400 Nakamichi which I didn't want and couldn't afford.

I commented on this in their feedback form and to their credit they responded with a £20 voucher by way of apology, which I spent on speaker cable. However t the point of sale the assistant actually said to me "So what did you complain about to get this then?" Rather soured the whole experience - made me feel guilty for giving some honest feedback to the company! Not bought anything from them since (12 years ago!)

Oh and I find their shops a bu***r to look round - far to cramped and noisy and their stock rarely seemed to reflected what was in their catalogues.

Phew, feel better now!
