Sky by wire - Is it any good?
Hello,
I've decided to take the plunge and get Sky-by-wire for a couple of months. Mainly for a bit of cricket and movies over Xmas. I've been told that it can take up to five days to get connected which sounds like a joke but I'll give it a go. Any comments on the service would be good. |

Have had it for a few years. Comments would be that it is too expensive, especially considering you do not get all the Sky Movies channels and the ones you don't get tend to be the channels that show the newest movies.
That said, if like me you want to be able to watch all the football and rugby it does the job and having the sport and movies combined is at least better value than taking one or the other. Why we don't get all the movie channels is beyond me as I have seen Sky by Wire offered by a different provider in Ireland and it carried all the movie channels, so I don't understand why they don't offer the same deal in the UK. |

I would have got the service ages ago if they replaced one of the movie channels with Sky Cinema and added Sky One/Two

Assuming you already have Homechoice, when you phone to add the Sky channels it appears within a few minutes / hours. The other good thing about it is that you only have to sign up for a month at a time rather than committing to 12 months. So, you can drop it if there's nothing you want to see. Also, not that it makes a difference but I've never been sent the contract from Sky to sign which Homechoice mention when you order it.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the Sky channels are assigned a higher bit rate for the sports channels. I don't currently have the Sky channels but I'm pretty sure that they slowed the internet down slightly more than any of the other channels do when you're watching them. I could be wrong though. |

Never spotted any slow down to be honest, but I would question the sports channels being a higher bit rate, the picture is fairly poor.

Is this the same service that Tiscali TV will be offering?
