SCD DVD - What would we like to see?
Quizmike

As you may or may not know, there is a petition to the BBC to produce a SCD DVD. Shameless plug for the petition below...

http://www.petitiononline.com/SCD16116/petition.html

Anyway, I was thinking that maybe they haven't brought one out as they don't know what to put on it. Shall we make a few suggestion?

I for one would love the most popular dances with a "dancers commentary" where the dancers talk us through the dance (and what went wrong!).

Wouldn't this most likely be because of the music rights? I know this stopped them putting out the full "Doctor Who Confidentials" and caused editing to "The Long Firm" (and others) when released on DVD.

The dancers' commentary is a genius stroke! Agree!

Perhaps not all ITT - can do without pop singers's self-promotion...

As bonus materials - history of SCD, interviews with dancers and producers and costume designers...

Will come back if I think of more!

I like all the ideas posted so far but would like to add that i'd love to see all of the professional dances from this series and previous ones.

Has anyone considered the sheer practicality of producing a set of DVDs with "all the series + selected ITT clips + extra footage".

That would be in the order of 200 hours of material!

By comparison, 20 hours of Coast comes on 6 discs, and costs around £40.

Would anyone actually be willing to pay £400 for a 60 disc set of SCD? There would be no market for such a product.

The only chance of producing a set of DVDs would be if there is some highly selective editing, or a very specific selection of highlights you wanted to see again - Zoe's tango, Jill's jive, etc.

Point taken.

How about put the DVDs into the following chapters:

Disc 1
For each ballroom dance, we can have two clips showing two different couples (who are good). That would cover 20 contestants out of 44 and most of the pros. Each dance should have a bit of introduction about how each dance should be done/what to look for etc. This section should last about, say an hour and a half. Commentary from the pros themselves available.

Then we can have 'the ugly... and when things go SOOOO wrong' chapter, which shows clips of Chris Parker, Carol Vorderman, Fiona Phllips etc... Also Mark's and Karen's microphone-gate, and Anton's and Jan's mermaid-gate and also Colin's and Erin's puppetgate... This should last about 30 minutes (or less). Commentary also available.

Selected pro shows. Half an hour.

Behind the scene, history, costumes. An hour.

Disc 2
Each professional dancer can have 5 minutes of themselves talking about, erm, themselves and their experience in SCD, with clips of them dancing with their pro partners or show partners in the background (e.g. Brendan's would have him and Camilla (series 1) and Natasha, Anton's would be with him and Lesley etc.). This should last about an hour and a half.

Each contestant can have their little bit as well - fine editting from the editting department from training footage and live shows and ITT. Another an hour and a half.

Judges' interviews, Bruce and Tess and Claudia. Half an hour.

The end.

Two discs - not bad?

Please feel free to amend.

Training, training and more training...oh and pro dances as well! As you say, there wouldn't be enough space to put a lot of training on, but in an ideal world that's what I would love to see, as to me that's the most interesting bit - especially when you then compare it to the final dance!

That would be excellent.

Lots of unseen footage - be it backstage or in training - would be a must.

I think ideally I'd like them to release a 2 disc package like you've mentioned above but just to cover series 1-3. And then from SCD4 and onwards to have a dvd released each year just covering that year's series.
