component problem
hi everybody.i've got an LG 32"LCD TV and i currently have the DVD connected to the component connections with an RGB lead.just bought an x box 360,and while it can be connected via scart, for it to be in HD,it has to be in the component connections in the back of the TV,but the DVD is already in these sockets.is there any way to connect the DVD and x box in the same(component)connection?i hope you can make sense of this,as i'm probably not describing it all that well!btw, went in maplins today, looking for inspiration and the guy said unplug the DVD when you want to play the x box and visa versa, which i thought was cack advice!!thanks, sue.

I take it this isn't a real hi-def DVD player (at £800), just one of the upscaler ones. So, you're not seeing real Hi-Def or Blu-Ray DVDs. Because anybody who owns a HD DVD player would not have bought a HD-Ready TV with only one HD connection available to them. So, you're not going to be missing out on much by connecting it via scart.
However, the point you have raised is valid, because if you were to get Sky HD you would be in the same boat. Quite why some HD Ready TV manufacturers have only provided one HD capable input on their TVs is rather strange. At some point switching boxes for HDMI/component will become as common as they are for scarts nowadays, but I don't know whether they yet exist. Luckily, there is no way you can be watching a (pseudo) HD DVD and playing a HD game simultaneously on the same TV, so in the short term the best solution probably is to unplug the one you are not using. And think about your next TV having at least two (and possibly three if they exist by then) HD connections available. |

In fairness to the OP she doesn't state whether it is a HD Ready TV or not. If it is, then it will have another HD input - ie HDMI/DVI. Even though that doesn't help her right now, she would still be able to add SKY HD via HDMI, so no need to knock her TV that much!
Also, suki, you don't state whether it is an upscaling DVD player or just a standard SD one that happens to have component connections. As Broadz says, you may get just as good a picture if you connect it by scart (RGB if possible of course!) and then just rely on the TV's internal upscaler. thanks for replies
hi again, thanks for the replies.yes,my TV is HD ready and has a dVI socket,so,connecting up to sky HD won't be a problem.the DVD player is a thomson and is standard definition.the handbook recomends connecting to component rather than scart.i have x box in component and DVD in scart now and the DVD picture is still good but not as sharp as when it was connected via component.i would still like to connect both in component if poss,is there some sort of splitter available?thanks

2 component inputs 1 component output - auto switching - handles audio as well with seperate inputs/output the best on the market (i use one) - often copied never bettered ![]() also if you need in the future to connect more than 1 HDMI product there are good quality HDMI switching units available with up to 5 inputs and 1 output - let me know if you need details Last edited by nick h : 24-11-2006 at 01:59. |

See my reply on this forum
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=490079 As I said, its worth every penny and as was said previously, you're future proofing yourself as well as you'll have 2 spare connections. |
