There are posters up in Dublin advertising Roger Waters forthcoming concerts in the City entitled "The Genius behind Pink Floyd".
What an ego this guy has. Don't get me wrong, I love some of the work he has done with the Floyd, but surely Floyd would have been a different band without any one of its four members.
For example, when Syd was replaced with Gilmour, a whole lot more emphasis was placed on the music than before, and when Waters fired Rick Wright and tried to take over all artistic responsibilities in 1980, we ended up with the monstrosity called "The Final Cut"
I always preferred Gilmours guitar solos to Waters neurotic monologues on Pink Floyd albums.
By the way at nearly €100 for the gig, he is charging way above the odds.

I agree on all the above. Technically, historically, Syd was the genius. Gilmour's part in Floyd is underrated and it was probably Waters' ego that caused the split. For me the albums tailed off after Wish You Were Here. After that Waters dominates too much. Animals and The Wall still contain fine moments though.

I love The Final Cut. It took a few plays to appreciate it, but it is a brilliant album.

I think Waters is the songwriting genius behind Pink Floyd, there can be no doubt about that, but his his ego is on the large side.

The original poster is absolutely spot on about Waters being an ego maniac who ruined Pink Floyd but after he left and Gilmour became band leader they were never quite recaptured their former glories, did they?

The thing is Pink Floyd, post-Syd, were all about the chemistry/friction between Waters and Gilmour. They both have their negatives but somehow it all came together when they worked with each other. It was the right balance.

Apart, on the other hand, they were both basically worthless and washed-up as there was no-one to stop the the others ego spiralling out of control and the music disappearing up its own arse.

Interesting points. Echoes (no pun intended) of Lennon/McCartney

I think Waters 3 solo albums following the split were excellent, particularly Amused To death, and Gilmour did a good job with the two albums he did with Pink Floyd.

They've both put on fantastic live shows since too.

The genius behind Pink Floyd is that they've managed to fool so many people for so long.
