I got a zune today.

So my Zune arrived today, I paid £151 no tax(yea! ).
I posted ages ago I was getting one and someone asked for a review and pictures when I got it so I thought I would just give a few pointers instead as they might not be interested now.lol. If someone wants more than I will post more.

Good:
UI is great, it is so easy to move through and looks good. Controls GREAT.The only thing that is disappointing is the text is not very crisp.
Sound is VERY good, it is so 3D and clear and that is with the free earphones.
Easy to add songs once you get going.
Also it is not as big as you think in the flesh.
Bad:
The software is annoying to begin with. I did not have any issues like some have been reporting(Multiple re-installs, removal of free songs/videos etc) but it was hard setting it up. I really wanted to link my gamertag to it as well but as it is not official started in the UK you can't. I made an American hotmail account and just did it that way. Also it synced every song on my hard drive to the library, there where about a million songs on in my library, then it tried to put them on my Zune! I stopped it and just dragged and dropped the albums I wanted.
Also a really annoying thing is it can't display album art as good as hoped, there are blurry but apparently there is a fix this friday to fix it or doing something to the pictures can fix it.?

I have only had it for a couple of hours but I really love it.lol

I've heard it messes up your music when you want to uninstall the software, could be a malicious rumour though.

I bought it on eBay.
I will put some pictures up tonight. The more I used it the more I like it!lol
I put DrNo on it that I converted as well as an episode of family guy and they are really cyrstal. They look really nice and totally watchable. I found video on the iPod a bit stupid but I could really watch something on this.

I think the general consensus is along with your findings. Overall it's a great non-Ipod mp3 players but people wanted a real quantum leap over Ipod to justify sacrificing their loyalty to the white plastic cupertino company which the zune is not, it is just a first step.

So are they starting firmware updates already?

Well there is a minor one out soon (rumoured) to fix the album art and then there is one out in january to make it link to your PC/Xbox 360 wirelessly(Hinted on by gates and another microsoft guy). so I think they are working on it.

OK here are the pictures. I have a crappy old camera with crappy lighting so they are not brill but they are alright.
Video on it (Not very good picture, looks better in real life)
This is it just head on. Nothing special.
You can see how blurry the picture is here. I really hope the fix it soon!

This is the free carry bag thing you get. I thought I would include a pic because I think it is kinda good for free.
Another plain head on one.

i have a question. The screen although bigger, and widescreen has the same resolution as the iPod. So does it stretch videos? I don't understand how the screen is wide but has the same number of pixels.

Anamorphic widescreen? Its not that hard to understand really. Another example: a widescreen tv (non-HD) has the same resolution as a square one. Yet it has more picture at the sides than a square one and doesnt stretch anything.

And there are plenty of old widescreen plasmas and projectors that are 1024x768 (a non-widescreen resolution), that just have non square pixels.. and look fine displaying widescreen content.

The pixels are a different size.

E.g. 19" TFTs have the same resolution (1280*1024) as 17" TFTs, just the pixels are bigger.

That is true only when 19" TFTs have the same resolution. Very often bigger screen sizes have higher resolutions. Hence the need for increasing charater sizes and icon sizes and things. E.g. look at the various iMacs - the 24" has a higher resolution than some of the other ones.
