Component to Scart - any point?
Hiya,
My Pioneer DVD/SACD player can output progressive scan in component video format. However my TV ( A Sony CRT) only has scart sockets. Would I get any benefit from using a component to scart cable into the RGB scart on the tv? or am I better just sticking with my current RGB scart lead? i suspect I should stay as I am. Thanks. |

It would only work if your TV was capable of accepting Component Video on the SCART RGB connections. If it can only do RGB then you will be able to physically connect the two perfectly OK but I doubt the picture quality would be up to much
![]() I take it you are aware that RGB and Component are not the same thing? They are physically interchangable in that they both use three video connections but they are very different animals electrically. |

I (mistakenly) did this, and the image was a mess... it wasn't just bad quality, it simply didn't work properly to the extent that you couldn't work out what was being shown.
rgb spits out three colours, where as (if I'm not mistaken) component video spits out colour on two and brightness on the other. not sure in the point of scart-component video cables... maybe if you have 2 tvs running from one dvd and need to use up the component plugs for one and scart for the other? |
