the top 10 today takes me back, some good songs in there - shame Boyzone had to spoil it all by being #1!

Does anyone on the forum know the date of this episode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRBLvnW_xKA

Also it shows SL2 drop one place to number 2. So they must have been number1. It just goes to show how diiferent the chart was and thats one of the great things about the chart show.

Not sure of the date yet, but this has to be one of the final episodes simply because of the songs they showed as coming up later (Booty Call by All Saints, If You Tolerate This by The Manics etc........). I'm hoping this is the second to last, because then we get to see the Music Sounds Better With You video- the one made of the montage of old graphics (although that was one of the editions shortened for Formula 1). I can remember watching these episodes at the time (though the 3rd & second to last editions I watched on the late night repeats).

Edit: looks like August 1st 1998, so the 4th to last edition. It's also one of the Formula 1 editions, so only 40 minutes (this also shortened the first edition of SM:TV/CD:UK).

2nd edit: Look, an on-screen mention of the final edition

date should be Saturday August 1, 1998 as both theaudience and Dandy Warhols entered the BBC chart the following day.

The date is definitely 1 August, as the information bar on Paul Weller's song tells you he plays at London's Victoria Park the following Saturday, and a quick look round t'net, shows that was on 8 August.

Since seeing this thread, I've put this on my Sky Planner and have been watching it for a few weeks now.

I must admit that I don't remember these Chart Shows. For me, it's heyday was a few years earlier and I will always remember it for introducing me to The Sugarcubes, The Stone Roses and The Pixies to list a few.

I noticed a decidedly heftier looking Sophie Ellis Bextor today. Clearly, she has starved herself recently which is a real shame.

They didn't play it in full presumably? I'll tape it on the Thursday repeat for my site

I don't think they did (I was on the phone at the time the top 10 was played!). It was one of the Chart Shows that was shortened back then for the F1 practice races, so I think most of the top 10 was just skipped through with a few seconds per song. I think even the #1 (Viva Forever) was shortened, albeit was played for longer than any of the other songs in the top 10.

EDIT: according to the Sky EPG the programme is repeated at midnight tonight, as well as Thursday. Because of the F1 back then, this particular show is only about 40 minutes long...

I hated it when they shortened it for the F1

This is because future love paradise was an E.P. and there were various songs on it.

They were the same track on the E.P. but different videos.

It's possible the version shown on the 11th May 1991 had been made for the American market.

It's great to see the repeats of the Chart Show on the Vault. It was one of my fave tv programmes of all time.

My fave era was the fairground years, the visuals were great, the indie chart 'carousel', the dance chart 'dodgems' and the rock chart 'ghost train'.

You'd see videos you wouldn't see anywhere else on tv. I remember seeing 'Wrote for luck' by Happy Mondays on the indie chart and starting to become interested in indie music.

I was such a big fan of the Chart Show that i even wrote down each week's specialist chart (starting from 1991) and have kept them to this day.

I always got and still get a buzz when seeing the intro for the Top 10 with the Big Wheel and balloons with that fantastic music, and the rocket preceeding the Number 1.
I reckon the tune for the Indie Chart sounds very similar to The Stone Roses!

I agree, the top 10 intro was brilliant and i also liked the train coming towards you before the start of the 'chart blaster' section.

I've just looked on my Sky Guide and Classic Chart Show is not down for Saturday on the Vault at 11am or midnight.

I don't know if its moved, a mistake or the Vault has finally pulled the plug.

I hope it's not the latter, though I wouldn't be suprised.

It's a shame but i've been expecting it.

I'm just hoping against hope that it's a mistake.
