When I asked the BFI (British Film Institute) to see the first three episodes of Channel 4's The Chart Show, the BFI told me it would take some time for the technician to convert the 1" tape into something compatible such as the DVDs, which I was watching there. However it was worth waiting for the appointment date to see the episodes. Interestingly the ITV episode of 21/01/89 which I was watching there was in a VHS tape. Not too sure why was that, because I didn't have time to ask the guy there. If the BFI can manage to do that, why can't the Vault channel do the same. Is it because the BFI has so much money from the government to convert their archive films into tape, while the Vault doesn't have any cash to do their classic chart show episodes themselves !!!

Great news! Hopefully it won't be like the last time where we just got the same 3 episodes on a loop for a month, and hopefully they'll be some "new" episodes rather than just the ones they've shown before (I'm especially hoping for the 1986-90 and 93-95 episodes that they couldn't show before).

I admit I do have a particular "want" list of episodes- from the ones they can show, if they haven't converted the other tapes, I'd particularly like to see the 1990 end of year special and the penultimate episode from 1998.

On Sky's listings it says it's on Saturday & Sunday at 5pm and then 3pm from Monday.

http://tv.sky.com/tvlistings

Also it only last 30 minutes on Saturday.

I imagine the Saturday listing is a mistype. If it was listed as 45 minutes on the other hand it would be quite interesting, as that's how long the show was before November 1987, so it would indicate we were getting some early editions (although it could also mean one of the 1997-98 episodes that were shortened because of Formula 1).

October 11th 1997 I believe today's episode is. A brand new one! (To The Vault at least).

Edit: might be wrong- my Guinness Book of Hit Singles says that Jimmy Ray "New Entry" was released on October 13th, so this is probably the October 18th edition.

This great news! So will there be a 'new' episode each week then, with the first showing on the Saturday & so on etc? So this 1997 episode will be shown each day from tomorrow (29th May) until next Friday (4th June) & then a different episode will be shown next Saturday 5th June? If that is correct then that's great stuff, as if each episode gets 7 showings, then the ratings could be good enough to keep them going-on for a while. Here's hoping anyway!...

Talking of The Chart Show etc, whatever happened to the 'new' version they started doing on ChartShowTV? It disappeared in early 2009 & has never come back AFAIK. Is wasn't as good as the original ITV series, but wasn't a bad way to spend an hour & a good way to see some new videos without having to trawl the way through all the music channels etc...

Probably never worked in the modern day.

The Daily Fix is presented and a similar format. I imagine this is what replaced it.

Looks like October 25th 97 today- are they running them in order, then?

Edit: Ooh! We got the Video Visuals caption at the end, that's a first!

Dont have the Vault on Virgin no fair. It would be interesting to see if the showed 1995 episodes how they would remove the Twix references.

Any chance anyone has taped it and can upload it to Myspace.. hint hint Razdan

Hello

Could I ask, when during this week did the Chart Show start? I only found it today and I would like to know what episode is going to brodcast Tomorrow, as I am intent on capturing the series.

they have left the competition numbers in todays repeat
this could soon cause some problems
ive uploaded a video of it here youtube link
why will the leave the competition numbers in but remove all the tizer sponsor ads, its seems stupid because you cant enter the competitions but you can buy tizer, plus i'm sure ag barr doesnt care if the sponsor ads are repeated its very much a part of the show as anything else was.

Very happy to see Chart Show return to the Vault.

Slightly disappointed that they're using those ghastly vertical side borders *and* onscreen channel logo. Last time around, someone from this forum persuaded them to switch off the logo during Chart Show broadcasts. I wonder if they'd do the same again?

I doubt it. It's an 0891 number, and they haven't worked for the last 10 or so years, so it's not like anyone's going to ring and get charged or anything.

You can just pop up to B&Q or Maplins or somewhere which sells those 50 quid portable satellite kits, as The Vault's an FTA channel, it's all you need to recieve it- something like this should be enough. Just stand the dish in the window or something. I only have an FTA motorised setup myself- not Sky or Freesat.

I've just been in touch with the manager of the vault channel and she has told me that she wont be removing the dog on repeats, I was told this was allowed under the old management but it wont be happening from now on.
She also does not seem to know which episode is being shown or whether or not its in the correct order.
Its such a shame the chart show couldnt be shown in its original form again.
