Had a look at the Guardian Archive and I found what was featured in The Chart Show. Not sure why I had different listings from the Times Archive, perhaps there was error in my part or the newspaper's error. Anyway this is what was the main specialist charts in the dates below:
11th April 1986 - HEAVY METAL 18th April 1986 - INDIE 25th April 1986 - REGGAE 2nd May 1986 - DANCE 9th May 1986 - HEAVY METAL 16th May 1986 - INDIE 23rd May 1986 - REGGAE 30th May 1986 - DANCE 6th June 1986 - HEAVY METAL 13th June 1986 - INDIE 20th June 1986 - REGGAE 27th June 1986 - DANCE 4th July 1986 - HEAVY METAL 11th July 1986 - INDIE 18th July 1986 - REGGAE 25th July 1986 - DANCE 1st August 1986 - HEAVY METAL 8th August 1986 - No episode, but a show called REWIND took its place 15th August 1986 - INDIE 22nd August 1986 - REGGAE 29th August 1986 - DANCE 5th September 1986 - HEAVY METAL 12th September 1986 - INDIE 19th September 1986 - NETWORK ALBUM 26th September 1986 - DANCE 3rd October 1986 - HEAVY METAL 10th October 1986 - INDIE 17th October 1986 - NETWORK ALBUM 24th October 1986 - DANCE There were no further episodes until the Xmas edition in December 1986 Currently on Wikipedia, it's been written that the Chart Show was taken off during the summer, but this clearly wasn't the case according to the Guardian Archives. Although after October 1986, The Chart Show was replaced by a new series of The Tube, which ultimately ended by the end of April 1987 and then The Chart Show came back in May 1987. It seems only one episode was cancelled during the summer of 1986 and that was on 8th August 1986, which was replaced by what it seems a one off show called REWIND, which was basically a compilation of artist performances on Channel 4 music shows. Why, the Chart Show was cancelled on that date, well it seems once again according to wikipedia, that there was a dispute between the Musicians Union and The Chart Show over music videos being shown on Channel 4, where artists I guess weren't paid or something related to that. The show was produced by the same people, who produced The Chart Show. Also, the reggae chart seem to been dropped by The Chart Show after August, which could explain why there was no Reggae Chart in the Chart File Update after August and also no Reggae Chart of 1986 in the Xmas edition. |

Why doesn't Chart Show TV use any of its predecessor's features anymore (apart from the "chart" obviously)? I liked their New Release/Chart Breaker/Video Vault section that the old Chart Show (and Chart Show TV's earlier charts) used to do, and how about those PLAY and FFWD segments from the old Chart Show? Why wasn't it passed on to the new one? Is it just "better" to play songs in full?
